No one can call me an egoist

By Dmitri Shumin and Dmitri Chesnokov, SovSport.ru, Nov. 10, 2008:

Alexander, do you believe in magic numbers? You couldn't score eight games in succession and your number is 8. Did you believe that you could brake it?
I had enough moments. I even thought I'd score a pair of goals to Rangers. Even raised my hands once... But I am not in despair. The main thing is that Washington keeps winning. And the goals will come, I have no doubts.

But at least you have a lot of assists.
Right. If I can't score myself, what's now, focus on this? Let the others score.

I recall the moment when you could make your best-known wrist shot, when you were behind the defenceman, but you opted to pass. Could it be because you lost confidence in yourself?
Why? Once Semin was in a better position, another time I shot myself, but hit the bar. It's just no luck...

The Rangers put defenceman Paul Mara against you. Was he good at shutting you down?
Not at all. It was very easy to play against him. I am not saying that he is no good. But Mara clearly didn't have enough speed. I was faster than him all the time.

You almost got into a fight with Mara, and he was penalized.
This is his problem. Nobody penalized me.

Semin now competes with Malkin for the title of best scorer in the league...
I am very glad for him. Sasha is in perfect shape now.

Are you jealous?
Me? Why? We play for the same team. It would be very stupid if I'd begin to take the game on myself now. No one can call me an egoist.
