Thanks for your support, Stu...

By Stu Hackel, Slap Shot, New York Times, Nov. 3, 2008:

On his fan blog Alex Ovetjkin, TJ reported yesterday that the Russian web site Life.ru had posted a story that Nikolai Mikhailovich Kabaev, OV’s grandfather, had passed away, which had other web sites speculating he’d be away from the Caps for yet another week.

But TJ, who is very diligent at combing the Russian press to get the story right, couldn’t find confirmation of the death anywhere else, and today he’s written, “All indications are that it was a fake. My opinion about Russian press hit a new low….I could never imagine someone could write a fake obituary, it’s not a some rumor to play with, it’s a tragedy.”

I feel kind of depressed, especially after what Alex said... You know, I was supposed to do a lot of stuff yesterday, instead I missed my yoga class, hiking trip, etc., spent all day trying to track if it all was true.

Thanks for your support, Stu. I do appreciate it.

Thanks for your efforts, TJ. It's difficult for non-Russian speakers to be able to get translations of Russian newspaper stories.

I have to say that this is not your fault, you didn't write the initial story and tried to confirm it...So please keep up the translations we (ok me) fans really appreciate it!

I have appreciated your efforts at finding and translating articles in the Russian media. Please keep it up. I have always found your site to be credible and it is very unfortunate that a Russian paper printed such an inaccurate report. I give you a lot of credit because you questioned the accuracy from the beginning and then updated throughout the day pointing out that the report was suspect.
