Malkin-Ovechkin: Truce
Alex: Getting ready to have some sushi - interviews are all done for today. Check out pictures of me and Malkin online - we took a lot, I'm su
re Slava Malamud already posted them on Capitals Insider... :-) You're right, Alex, he did...
Truce for now... :-)
Alex Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin actually exchanged words this afternoon before the Eastern All-Stars media availability as they sat down with the rest of their compatriots/temporary teammates.
No, there was no kissing and making up, just a few polite words but, according to Malkin, it was a big step toward letting bygones be bygones. So, your special Russian correspondent approached Ovechkin, who was doing his interviews a few paces away, and passed him the olive branch, so to say.
"Are you ready to normalize the relations?", I asked Alex. "Okay", he answered. "Where is he? Let's go and normalize right now!"
And such, the historic moment occured. The visual evidence is before your eyes. Check out the steely strength of that grip.

Puck Daddy's reaction
Slava Malamud from Sport-Express, same stuff in Russian, or this is what actually Malkin and Oveckin said in their native language (for those who are interested)
I want to express my personal THANK YOU to Slava.
Just in...
On a personal request from US President Barack Obama Slava Malamud will skip the ASG and fly from Montreal to MidEast to negotiate peace between Israel and Palestine...
Nah... :-)
Update:
FanHouse:
Earlier today, a similar picture snapped by Slava Malamud from Russia's Sport-Express appeared over at Capitals Insider, but Chesnokov and Lysenkov assure me that their picture was snapped first.
If Slava reported it word to word what Ovechkin said, it sounds like Slava was first...
Update:
Please read Slava's comment. Ok, I want to thank Pavel Lysenkov and Slava Malamud and Dmitri Chesnokov for negotiating the truce, THANK YOU!

so i am pretty sure that moron at the end of the media scrum is that pens announcer steigerwald.
listen to him baiting ovie with all of the pens related questions and asking if he celebrated his goals extra special in front of their bench. i wonder if he asked malkin why he did his little shimmy-shake ice dance after he scored. everything pens annoys me, especially these homer announcers.
tj, Pavel Lysenkov and I had the same idea independently of each other. I talked to the Pens and Caps media people about 30 minute prior to the pictures being taken to make sure it would be OK. Lysenkov did take it a minute before I did, as I was talking to Kovalchuk the moment both Malkin and OV became available. Nobody stole anyone's ideas or quotes, we both did it without knowing what the other party was up to. Pavel and I are totally cool :)
