49 1/2

It was a great game tonight against Canes, Caps won in shootout and frankly got a bit lucky. Canes completely outplayed Caps in the third. I don't know what they drink, but the feeling was, it was more than just energy drinks. They completely outskated Caps, it was a real hurricane blowing in Verizon center. Caps bended, but didn't break. Ovie got his 49th goal, 1 assist and one goal in shootout. Very good, especially considered his not very good record in shootout. But Coach believed in Ovie and Ovie didn't let him and the team down.

Look at the stats! First of all, nobody in the team has + in +/-. Semin and Green got the worst -3, Ovechkin and Backstrom got -2. Weird. Overall Caps ended with -15, Canes with +16.

Lies, damn lies and statistics... :-)

But the Caps won...

Ovie had 23:49 of total ice time, average shift was 01:02, 8 shots on goal, 4 hits.

By HOWARD FENDRICH, AP:

Ovechkin moved within one goal of becoming the first Capitals player with 50 in three seasons and netted the winner in the shootout, helping his team end a four-game losing streak in Washington with a 5-4 victory over Carolina on Saturday night.

Mike Green scored his 24th goal, most among NHL defensemen, and assisted on Ovechkin's tally, while Alexander Semin has his 29th goal and three assists.
