Cherry: Alex, you are the best hockey player (update)

 

Well, Cherry did it right. At the Coach's Corner tonight he acknowleged that Ovechkin is the best player on Earth right now, patted Ovie in the back and basically said, "Alex, be in the Lightning' players shoes and feel what they feel."



Personally I don't have any problems with that. Truce? Hope so... Nobody is right and nobody is wrong here. We've seen much more intimidating celebrations by Canadian hockey players, Cherry wanted to defend Crosby and went on. Now, as he realized it, Ovechkin is much bigger than him. Don't pick up the fight you're going to lose. Finally Cherry realized that.

A week after seemingly taking satisfaction that his criticism had motivated Ovechkin to tone down his flamboyant celebrations, Cherry seemed low-key in his criticism last night.

"You can't do things like that and not make people feel bad," he said in reference to Ovechkin's opponents that night, the sad-sack Tampa Bay Lightning.
