Flyers got a couple of goons

Empty Netters, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Mar. 4, 2009:
Well here's a match made in heaven. The Coyotes dealt rough-and-tumble forward Daniel Carcillo (right), a former Penguins prospect, to the Flyers for forward Scottie Upshall.

EN Says: The Flyers always seem to be in the market for nasty mean players. That's exactly what Carcillo is. He'll drop the gloves with almost anyone. He's tied for second place in the league with 18 fights this season. He leads the NHL with 174 penalty minutes. Additionally, Carcillo brings some skill to the ice. He can chip in a few goals here and there. He had 13 last season.

His biggest downside is a lack of discipline. He will lose his temper from time to time and take foolish penalties. So in other words, he's the perfect Flyer.

Not really sure why the Flyers felt they need a player like this. They have tons of this on the roster already.

He'll add a some venom to the Penguins-Flyers rivalry.

He'll sure add a some venom to the Caps-Flyers rivalry. And McLaren? Is it what Don Cherry ordered?

San Jose has traded defenceman Kyle McLaren to Philadelphia for a sixth-round pick.

Sports Illustrated, Sept. 23, 2002:
"Kyle McLaren clotheslined Zednik as he stickhandled across the blue line, knocking him cold with an elbow. Zednik, who lay unconscious for five minutes, was taken off the ice on a stretcher and rushed to Montreal General Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a concussion, a broken nose and lacerations on his throat and near his eye."

Of course, the Flyers picked up a couple of goons. This is the Philthy team we're talking about here, only to get even more Philthy. Well, the goons certainly did a lot of good today. Losing to Calgary.
