Malkin: I am keeping an eye on Ovechkin
By O. Mezheritski, sovsport.ru, Mar. 19, 2009:
Jenya, you just recovered from the flu and earned 5 points. And if you were completely healthy, you could probably get all 10?
Well, that's too much of a conclusion. But you know what happens? You're in a good health and still can't put a bisket in a basket. But today was my day. Yesterday I skipped the team's practice and rested. That turned into a good game for me.
A hundred points is a landmark's milestone.
Thanks to my partners, without them I'd have nothing. It was Gonchar who handed me the excellent passes.
Do you keep an eye on the scoring race?
Everybody does. I read the newspapers, watch how my competitors and especially Ovechkin are doing. But mostly I focused on my game. That's the only way to gain a lot of points. It's a pity that I couldn't beat my personal record. I've already had a 5 points game in the first season. This time the ice was bad. The puck kept bouncing and was coming off the stick.
Was it nice to hear when the fans chanted "MVP!"?
One can't even imagine! I want to win more trophies and devote them to our fans. I have a fantastic support.
How many points do you plan to gain by the end of the season? You have 10 more games.
Oh, I do not want to guess. But if it'll go at such pace and if I'll have luck...
150?
Exactly! (Malkin smiles.)
By the way, have you ever been in Las Vegas?
No. And why do you ask?
The award's ceremony for the best players in the NHL this time will be there, not in Toronto.
See? Now I have another goal to get to Las Vegas. I'll try to do my best!
Yeah, Geno, keep an eye on tonight's game, Caps vs Bolts. Ovie is due.
