Spector: Enjoy Ovechkin celebrations now
Whether we like it or not - and admittedly I like it - Ovechkin has a very enthusiatic personality. He loves to play and loves to score, which is why he celebrates goals as he does.
Ovechkin right now is arguably the best hockey player in the NHL. He's certainly the most charismatic, is definitely the most talented goal-scorer and is likely becoming the league's most marketable player.
He dazzles fans and critics alike with his goalscoring wizardry, which displays just how beautiful the game of hockey can be when played by its top stars at the very highest level of competition.
Sure, his antics can be at times a bit over the top, but if some folks are trying to suggest he's hurting the quality of the NHL game they're way off the mark here. There are some valid criticisms of the NHL product, but Ovechkin's goalscoring celebrations isnt among them.
Besides, it's not as though enthusiastic celebrations haven't happened in the past, as can be witnessed here
and here.
Might as well enjoy Ovechkin's antics now, for as he matures those celebrations will likely diminish.
Watch these goal celebration and personally I wonder, what's the buzz?? Fleury or Williams, they had far more intimidating celebrations. Oh, I got it. Ovechkin "pre-meditated" it. Ovechkin haters love it because "pre-meditated" is usually associated with the murder.

I don't understand why so many people takes offence on Ovie's celebration?!!!He's just enjoy hockey, loves score and wanna be#1!!!Fans love him for his sincerity!:)and it's true!So I think if "anonymous" says some bad thing-they just envy Ovie and furying because of #1 in NHL is Russian(not canadian or american:)Sorry, but I realy think so...
OMg you have to listen to Joe Thorton and his reaction on Ovie, what a great guy!!!
"You know what? I love Ovechkin. I think this kid is great, he's great for the game, he's great for the young kids to watch. The energy this kid shows, the talent he shows, what he does on the ice is just spectacular, and, you know, so what? He goes and puts his stick down and, you know, he is hot. He is hot. He's telling everybody that he's red hot, and his stick is hot, he's ... letting everybody in the world know that he knows that he's good and that he's hot." - Joe Thorton

oope Jeremy Roenick made the comments not Thorton
I admit I enjoy Ovi's "normal" goal celebrations more than his 50th, which was a bit on the lame side, But I think some of the goal celebrations in the Funny goal celebration video were worse than Ovi's.
I think it was uncalled for by Don Cherry to practically incite people to take a run at Ovi two weeks ago or so. Think it probably got to Ovi to some degree, even though he denies it.
If someone's biggest problem is Ovechkin's goal celebrations, I want that life too... Since he didn't do anything racist or otherwise moron moves/gestures, focus on the game and let him celebrate his goals. (I'm not huge fan of that "hot stick" but it like didn't destroy my life or anything...)
