That was funny
Alex Ovechkin was shown on the big screen tonight at Philips Arena (Caps - Thrashers game). Tarik reports that everyone in the building was laughing, the Eastern Motors superstar likely included.
Actually Alex is so big that even bad commercial had a huge success. It was shown all over the country via ESPN. Who would ever heard about Eastern Motors outside DC otherwise?
Capitals Insider:
The Thrashers had some fun at Ovechkin's expense tonight. Ovechkin was fine with it. Boudreau was annoyed.
"I like the stuff they do, but I thought that was over the line," Boudreau said. "I know it was all in fun, but that was over the line. I wasn't a big fan of that. If they want to mock their own players, fine mock their own players like that."
Update:
Corey Masisak, TWT, Apr. 8, 2009:
* Consider this a warning that another overblown story involving Alex Ovechkin is likely forthcoming:
The Thrashers produced a pretty funny video that ran during a stoppage in play during the first period, but Boudreau "wasn't a fan of it." It was staged like a mock public service announcement, with Atlanta's Ron Hainsey narrating about the epidemic of hockey players doing bad commericals. It included a bit about Colby Armstrong and a car dealership ad he did while in Pittsburgh -- and then ended with poking fun at Ovechkin's Eastern Motors ad.
Like I said, Boudreau didn't like it, but Ovechkin was laughing at it while standing near the bench during the stoppage of play. They also showed Ovechkin's "dancing" from the ad after the Thrashers next goal.
"They also showed Ovechkin's "dancing" from the ad after the Thrashers next goal." That, I agree, is not nice.

have to say i wasn't a fan of it and it wasn't even funny. if the organization is so bad that the only way they can entertain the Atlanta fans is to mock ovie, then that is just sad.
the league throws a hissy of ovie "disrespecting" another team in their barn and then everyone thinks it is funny to mock/disrespect ovie in their barn, i don't get the double standard.
my problem is that since ovie is a fun loving guy everyone thinks it is okay to mess with him because "he's a fun guy, he won't care." well, you can be more comfortable around him because he is open, but you do not show him a lack of respect because of it. would they have done this to lecavalier, iginla, crosby, malkin?
perfect example is milbury last year at the Stanley Cup finals. he slapped ovie on the chest and told him to get a hair cut and called him a dog to his face. again, would he have done this to any of the other previously mentioned players?
