Looking back on his trip to the Beijing Olympics for the launch of 'The House of Vancouver Olympics friends', Washington's forward said, "I am even upset that I will be in Canada on the ice, rather than as a fan. Will have to train hard, while others will run for beers". However, when his friends from Beijing's trip left, Ovechkin explained that he was kidding. By the way, Capitals forward has already agreed to participate in the pre-Olympics training camp in Moscow, which is likely to be held at the Khodynka arena on August 29 -- September 1.
Ovechkin: "I am not even going to say how much I would like to help the team. I just really want to win. The Olympiad is held once in every four years. And it is such a chance! When I was in Beijing, it was super, these were cool five days. So many stories from that time that you can remember now..."
What kind of assessment can you give yourself for this season in the NHL?
We made a step forward in principle. But a step back too. I don't know whether the backbone of our team will be intact for next season. I do not know whether Serega Fedorov, Vitja Kozlov, Jose Theodore will remain. But our team was chic, competitive. And if you talk about the season, I took one trophy at least. So everything is fine.
One of the most discussed topics in the course of this season's been your relationship with Evgeny Malkin. Now, when you have declared a truce, are you supporting him in the finals?
It is, in principle, no difference for me who will win, Detroit or Pittsburgh. But watching some game excerpts on the Internet, it seemed to me that Detroit should win. And Pittsburgh is not a weak opponent.
What do you think about the future of Phoenix? Most likely the team will be moved to another city. Does Washington feel any of those problems?
I think Washington is not threatened by those problems because a lot of people attend the games. Why Phoenix has problems? Their fans don't go to the games because the team is bad, there are no achievements, there are no playoffs. And most importantly, there are no stars. When you have stars you can be profitable even without playoffs.

A good policy to keep his private life private. It probably won't work all the time though.
