Where is justice for Ovechkin?

Ed Frankovic Blog, Nov. 4, 2009:

After all, the most entertaining player in the league is on the shelf, week-to-week, because he made a couple of clean hits and Ken Hitchcock’s Columbus Blue Jackets decided that instead of getting even with a legal check in retaliation they would simply jump the Great #8 while he skated by their bench during a stoppage in play, likely injuring Ovechkin. To me this is just like a couple of thugs hiding out on the street and mugging the pedestrian as he walks by. Once caught they would get jail time yet the NHL, in this instance, so far has done NOTHING!! And to literally add insult to injury Hitchcock is going around in the media bragging about going after a guy who is a major meal ticket for the NHL.

“That would be correct. That’s the name of the game. Why, is that against the rules now?… Run, chase, hunt down, hit, whatever word you want to use that would be correct,” responded Hitchcock when asked if Columbus was targeting Ovechkin.

Well yes Ken, jumping a guy by your bench during a stoppage in play is against the rules and using the words ”hunt down” to describe it is even more despicable and is a disgrace to sports and the NHL. In fact, this whole incident, from the punch by Jason Chimera to the mugging by Jared Boll to Hitchcock’s comments, has no place in the league and Gary Bettman and Colin Campbell need to come down hard on the Blue Jackets for this incident IMMEDIATELY, because if they don’t then their game is going to become a joke very quickly.

sorry but I dont agree Ovie is innocent. does it suck he's hurt..ya! but i clearly remember he laid a big hit, then he clearly shoved a CBJ player hard infront of their bench. so add the previous hit, and his ability to hit big again and the fact he took a really big twon hand shaove to a guy in front of the whole team their team did exactly what any team would do, they went after him.

the caps have done that many time, one player gtes shoved or bumped, or hit and the whole team on the ice goes after that one player.

just because the team already had the intention of going after ovie, and just becquse ovie actually fueled their fire is no reason to say ovie was blindsided.

the cbj are looking like the one team that wont let a guy like ovie, score on them at will, hit their guys, and scrum infront of the benches.

ovie either needs to stop trying to do everything himself, or only hit when the play is going, because there was no reason to two hand shove that cbj player other then "oh im a little angry let me push u"

Marge,

I'd agree, but Chimera was the first who bumped him. Ovi bumped him back and Chimera said something really bad and Ovi punched him.

After that all the hell broke. If Chimera can't stand a clean hit from Ovi, he shouldn't play. He doesn't want to drop the gloves and goes after the star player. With Brashear he wouldn't try it, but because he had Boll on his line and no Brashear, he got all the bravery.

What Ovi should do? Stop hitting? I think he should stop to react to the bumps and provocations because Chimera has set a presedence. Now every tema will try to do the same, unless Caps will trade for enforcer.

Ovi should just swallow the pride and hit the guy on the next shift instead of getting into shoving and pushing.

I agree with TJ. Chimera gets upset because Ovie laid a clean hit on him. He gets back at Ovie the wimp's way, by pushing him as 8is going back to the bench. Ovie stands up for himself and gets jumped by Boll. That stuff has got to stop. Take a clean hit or get out of the NHL.!
