Ovechkin as poweful as his cars

Nate Ewell: Ovi in car blogs now. For the record, his plate on the black car is better.

Crazy Alexander Ovechkin Has Crazy Literal License Plate:

It's no secret mad Russian hockey player Alexander Ovechkin has a taste for speed and insane cars like the Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series and this Brabus-tuned S-Class. His taste in vanity plates? Not quite so creative.

DC Sports Bog: Ovechkin ranked 37th most powerful athlete

Bloomberg BusinessWeek just published a list of the 100 most powerful athletes in America, with on-field measures (success, popularity) and off-field measures (awareness, trustworthiness, appeal, endorsement and influence).

It's not a list filled with D.C. names--I could find just two one--but Alex Ovechkin fared pretty well, coming in at 37th, all sports, all nationalities, all genders. He comes in one spot after Dwight Howard, one spot in front of Andre Johnson, and is the highest ranked hockey player. The list includes athletes from all countries, but they're ranked on their American power.

"The two-time league MVP's YouTube highlights helped him surpass Sidney Crosby as the player most likely to return hockey to the mainstream," the publication wrote. "Now he just needs to work on his English."

(Sidney Crosby is 39th, with Business Week writing that "Though Alex Ovechkin gets the SportsCenter shoutouts, Crosby is the proven winner with two Stanley Cup final appearances to his name.")

Bloomberg BusinessWeek:

Alexander Ovechkin
Power 100 rank: 37
Sport: NBA/Washington Capitals—F
Age: 24
Most recent notable achievement: 2009 NHL MVP
Earnings: $12 million
Key sponsors: CCM

Why he's on the list: The two-time league MVP's YouTube highlights helped him surpass Sidney Crosby as the player most likely to return hockey to the mainstream. Now he just needs to work on his English.
