Ovechkin drops the gloves

Wow, a wild night at Tampa Bay. Steve Downie punched Ovi in a scrap after Ovi hit him, they both got minor penalties and after they both leave penalty boxes, Downie hits Ovi with a stick and challenges him. Ovi drops the gloves, but Matt Bradley comes to the scene, starts the fight with Downie and lands three or four very good punches.

If you look at that fight between Richards and Ovechkin, not a single punch had reached Ovi. Ovi is not bad at all. So the fight vs. Downie could be really interesting, Ovi could handle him if he was able to handle Richards.

Of course, Bradley did all the right things. Ovi is a star player, he is the team's Captain, he must be protected. This is when you regret that Brashear is gone, this could never happened if he was there.

So, should GMGM trade for an enforcer? If you want to protect your investment, the answer is yes. But it's hard to find another Erskine, a tough guy who can play.

Well, I sure hope Erskine or someone else will make Downie to pay in the next game vs. Tampa.

Mark your calendar, game # 55, Sunday, January 31, 2010: LIGHTNING - CAPITALS 3:00 PM.

Wait, should Caps trade for Downie like they did for Chimera? :-) How about swapping those two? So far Chimera didn't show anything, he could've go and challenge some of Tampa Bay players.

He didn't.

Hmmm... Ovi didn't handle Richards at all. That said I would have loved to see him fight.

Steckel got destroyed tonight though, ouch.

I was taking a nap when the Downy v. Ovie fight almost happened. This is the first time I've actually seen it though. That said, while I respect Brads for wanting to protect Ovie, I really think he should have let Ovie go for it. He was absolutely ready to go. He isn't afraid of anybody. I mean, even if he ended up losing the fight, that was "his" fight, not Brads fight.

But, again, kudos to Brads for rushing to Captain Ovie's rescue. As TJ mentioned in the story, Chimera could have stepped up, seeing as he's supposed to be this big tough guy, but he was no where to be found. Chicken Chimera strikes again, folks.
