Don Cherry: Ovechkin should've laid out Gomez

Cherry: "Ever since Campbell's suspension, Ovie hasn't been the same. You're a pit bull, keep playing like a pit bull!"

Capitals Insider, APr. 17, 2010 "Ovechkin aims to bounce back":
Alex Ovechkin took full responsibility for his shot-less effort in Game 1 on Friday morning, then the two-time MVP spent the rest of the day trying to decompress and think about anything but hockey.

Ovechkin said he walked around Georgetown with some buddies who are in town visiting. He had his favorite lunch - sushi - at one of his favorite restaurants. Then he went home and played video games.

"I just relaxed mentally," he said. "It was nothing special, no crazy things."

"Well, I don't need motivation right now," Ovechkin said. "I forget last game. I know everybody is reminding me about last game, so thank you guys. How I say, it's just hockey. You can't play every game the same every night, the best. Sometimes you don't feel that good but in the playoffs you have to do something. What? I don't know. Drink more energy drinks. Listen to more music. I don't know. You just have to do something."

Ovechkin's teammates said they're confident that their captain will respond.

I usually don't agree with Don Cherry much, but he's spot on about Ovie playing his game. The only way the Caps stand a chance of avoiding a huge upset vs the Habs is if Ovie wakes up and plays the physical game he's capable of. After an awful game 1, Ovie scored a goal in game 2. Maybe now his playoff juices are running and he's out of his funk.
