Much ado about nothing by Ovi's haters. Oh well, there might be some innocent morons bystanders who believe the haters.
But this post is not for the two categories described above. This is for Ovechkin's fans who might run into this on some message board or on a hockey forum. So you need to be informed and prepared.
I saw the video yesterday and just shrugged, there was nothing there. But then the story was re-tweeted, the video was re-posted all over and I couldn't believe how many tweets were going out there. That's why I'd like to thank Dave Stubbs of Montreal Gazette and his blog "Habs Inside/Out".
Watch how Ovechkin hits the brakes, his skates are turned away from the kid, if he really wanted to spray the kid, he could've turn left, instead he turns right to avoid spraying the kid.
Here are some tweets about it from Nate Ewell, Director of Media Relations for the Washington Capitals:
nateewell: 1) Kid shouldn't stand in front of our bench 2) guarantee he's bragging to friends about having snow sprayed by Ovi
nateewell: @emptynetters I know you're doing your job mocking the Caps, but there's zero harm here. And the kid should. Not. Be. There.
Kid is probably the coolest kid in school now. Whoever says differently is out of their mind. He has about 9 girlfriends now and is king of the lunchroom.
And I'm a teacher, so I know how this stuff works. ;)
To all haters: Ovie, like many other hockey players, is a creature of habit. What is shown in the video is what Ovie does before EVERY game. He comes onto the ice, legs spread wide, edges left, right, turns towards the bench, races full speed to the door, stops abruptly so that he snows the door and so that a few flakes go over the door and onto the handle. He does this at the start of every single game. I have witnessed this routine as a Caps' STH for the past 4 years. The kid was standing right in front of the door to the Caps' bench where Ovie ends his pre-game ritual. There's no story here. The kid stood in the wrong spt.
Oh yeah, and the Habs are the epitome of class -- booing the US National Anthem every game and goalies shooting pucks at our players and slashing them in the backs of their legs from the bench when we score. Plus acting like a bunch of babies when they're getting beat. Mmmmmmkay.
To the 2nd anonymous poster bringing up Montreal fans' being the epitome of class and booing the US National Anthem, I TOTALLY agree with you. I first heard about it on the Comcast sports report prior to Capitals Post Game Live and remember one of the anchormen getting REALLY upset about it. I was as well. Then, as if I had any shred of respect left for Montreal, I see that punk Carey Price hit one of the Caps players during their goal celebration. That was just childish. I don't care how much "history" that team has, or how long they've been around, certain current players, as well as their fans, really need to grow up and show some respect.
But, you're right, Montreal, let's continue to make Ovechkin out to be the villain... Give me a break.

This is a case of Ovie hatred/envy rearing its ugly head. This is being blown way out of proportion due to negative emotions taking over AND the Habs being down 3-1 to the Caps, nothing more.
I'm from Montreal and I totally agree with you guys, there is NO story there. People here make a big deal out of everything that has anything to do with hockey - and sometimes, it's kind of pathetic.
Also, please, don't think of ALL of us as disrespectful fans! We are not all as classless and stupid as the drunk people who booed the US anthem at the Bell Center. I, for one, would NEVER do that.
PS; Great job on the blog!!! I'm a Canadiens fan but I have always had a soft spot for Ovi! :)
Obviously every village has its idiot(s) and we understand. I am fascinated by Montreal because Ovechkin considers it the best NA city. Hopefully I'll visit it someday.
Best regards and appreciation from Caps fans for legendary Canadiens.
"He's like the shark in Jaws, circling in the water waiting for blood. They should play that music from the movie – da-duh, da-duh, da-duh - when he's out on a shift. He doesn't just go after loose pucks, he hunts them down."

Just wanted to thank you for posting my book on your blog, which I consulted a fair bit while researching and writing the book. In particular, the comprehensive list of links on alexovetjkin.blogspot.com is the best library on Ovechkin material available anywhere.

I can see how people can say that's really inappropriate but people just take it out of hands.
Ovechkin breaks on the other side of the kid. Anyway who really cares?
People nowadays, freak over nothing.
The boy looks over his shoulder twice, as if to make sure he is in front of the visitors bench door.
It wasn't that big a deal. If, as you said, Ovie had turned the other way, the kid would have gotten a lot more snow.

1. The proper use should be disdain, not distain.
2. Those things you use for stopping are brakes, not breaks.

Could people be anymore petty? Geez! Big deal, so he sprayed a kid with ice! It's frozen water!!!
