What's wrong with Ovechkin
By Stu Hackel, NYT SlapShot, Apr. 16, 2010:
What’s wrong with Ovechkin? With no shots on goal last night (many were blocked, others missed the net), the hockey world is wondering. Is he hurt? Is he slumping? Pierre McGuire, who was rinkside for TSN’s telecast, thinks something is wrong with the Caps captain, telling his “Three Guys On The Radio” hosts on Ottawa’s Team 1200 this morning that the outside burst speed and ability to induce panic in defenders, two things for which Ovechkin is known, were noticeably absent in Game 1. He’s hurt or sick, McGuire thinks.
“He showed up, and he tried,” said McGuire.
Capitals Insider, Apr.16, 2010:
*Boudreau denied rumors that Ovechkin is playing through an injury and has brought over his Russian personal trainer, Dmitry Kapitonov, to help him deal with the ailment.
"He's done that every year," Boudreau said of Ovechkin inviting his trainer to Arlington. "He brings him in, and it's Ovie's way of saying, 'I want to be a 100-percent prepared. Not a 100-percent healthy.'
"He's a 100-percent healthy so we'll get that out of the way," Boudreau added. "I heard a couple of people say last night that he might be playing hurt. No, we're making excuses for him. He just didn't have a great game, and every human being, no matter how good you are sometimes you don't have a great game. We should leave it like that and see how he goes the rest of the series."
Never believe to anyone who denies the rumors about the injuries in playoffs. Even after playoffs were over last year, Ovie acknowledged that he played with an injury, but refused to tell what kind of injury he had.

he's not injured, he had a bad game stop trying to make sense of it...why would BB go out of his way to deny it, and to say such blunt things like "he's not injured, he just played bad, we're making excuses" if Ovie was fighting some injury and the Caps and BB didnt want anyone to know BB wouldnt say statements like that, he would say "he's not injured" and leave it at that. he would not make so many comments denying it because why insult a guy's play if you know he's playing through something and no one else does. he had a bad game...move on
Marge,
With all due respect, where do you see or hear for that matter Boudreau saying he is not injured? I don't see it. BB doesn't want to lie to you, that's why there's no phrase "he is not injured".
And I am not saying he is injured either, I am just showing you what people say. When Ovie left the practice, Tarik sent a tweet that the rumor is Ovie was not 100%. Tarik is not known to disseminate rumors that don't have the ground.
So chill out girl, we'll beat the Habs and Ovi will score a bunch.
After all, players always have some kind of injuries in playoffs.
no matter what anyone says he's not the same Ovie since the second suspension. He no longer hits like the old Ovie and without hitting his heart isn't in it.His overall game stinks.I THINK THE "NHL" HAS SUCCEEDED IN NEAUTERING OVECHKIN. THEY WANT HIM TO BE MORE LIKE CROSBY.NO GO-NADS PUNCHES FROM THE REAR TO THE BALLS,CHECKS WITH HIS STICK FIRST,NEVER DOES HE USE A BODY CHECK HE'S AFRAID HE'LL HURT HERSELF.WHAT A PUKE CROSBY IS.IF OVIE DOESN'T SNAP OUT OF HIS FUNK ITS ALL OVER FOR THE CAPITALS AND OVECHKIN MIGHT AS WELL GO BACK TO RUSSIA FOR GOOD--BECAUSE HE'S OF NO USE TO THE CAPITALS THE WAY HE IS NOW.---TO BAD THE NHL HAS KILLED SACH A ONCE GREAT PLAYER BECAUSE THEY WANT THEIR CANIDIAN BOY "boy" to be the face of their NHL.No Russians need apply for that job.
On HNIC on Sirius earlier today, the commentator went on and on about Ovie being injured as a reason for his poor performance in game 1. I don't know if it's true, if Tarik's report of a rumor to that effect is true or not. What bothers me is the lack of fire and passion in Ovie since the Olympics, but most especially after the Campbell hit.
I don't know if he's concerned about his reputation, if he wants to avoid penalties/suspensions so much his physical game is lacking. Whatever it is, the Ovie of the past two months has been a shadow of his former self. Ovie needs to re-group and re-focus and put all the bad Olympics/Campbell hit mojo behind him. If he is to be a real CAPTAIN of the Caps, he must play his physical game and put up the numbers he's capable of to put away the Habs and advance to the second round.
