Ovechkin: "Backstrom's one of my best friends"

Nate talked to Ovechkin about signing Backstrom:
“I’m very happy to hear the news, because he’s one of the top centers in the world, one of my best friends and we want to play together for a long time. He’s a guy who wants to stay in one place and be comfortable and win, just like me. We talk all the time about playing together, and we talked after the playoffs about how we can win in Washington.”

Now the Nicky/Ovie era can really begin. Nicky is also a great influence on Ovie, not that Ovie needs much guidance, and will be another great leader for the team.
"We talk all the time about playing together..."
Now I'm picturing them in a sandbox. ;)
I am SO happy for Nicky! And I'm also glad that Ovi and Nicky will be playing together for another decade. They're such a good combination.
However, I'd also love to see Semin signed for a couple more years. It'd be a shame to lose Semin to another team or the KHL. He has to bring everything he's got to the table next season...
Charlotte,
For the right price, why not? But Semin<Backstrom.
Now I'm picturing them in a sandbox. ;)
LOL, that was funny...
This is great news. I just knew that Ovie would be just as happy about Nicky getting a long term contract as Nicky is. Both players are better for playing with the other. The next decade will be an awesome one for the Caps and their fans.
I've been a Caps fan for so long, my wish now is to live long enough to see Ovie and Nicky play together for at least 10 more years and, hopefully, both players retire as Capitals.
I guess I can agree, but only because I think Backstrom has way more determination and will to play. He's more into the sport, more into the game.(Kind of like Ovi) It seems as if he enjoys practicing and being on the ice with everyone else. Which is why he probably developed his skills better than Semin.
Semin just seems like he doesn't care about anyone or anything. (I'm not necessarily saying its a bad thing) But it doesn't look as if he actually WANTS to be out there in US playing every day, maybe he'd be happier playing for the KHL?
I don't know... Maybe that's just the way I see it lol
Btw. The "anonymous" right after "BobbyG" is me lol
Semin isn't staying. Semin has no heart anyway so we don't need him. He's khl bound. Let's use that money to get a center and a dman.
I am SOOO happy Nicky is here for a while! Yay! :)
I agree. Semin doesn't want to be here. He looked like he could have cared less on the ice during playoffs and then goes to Germany, puts on a Russian jersey and plays well. Coincidence?
