Russia - Czech Republic final, 2:30pm ET
The news.sportbox.ru reports that Ovechkin and Fedorov were the only ones who skipped the morning skate because of the injuries, but both worked on the stationary bikes. They are expected to be on the ice for the final Russia vs. Czech Republic. Varly will be in the net.
Check myp2pforum.eu, atdhe.net and ngetv.net for live feeds. Also TSN.CA is planning to do a live broadcast of the game. The game will start at 2:30 pm ET. Here are the live stats from IIHF site.
More from news.sportbox.ru:
Pavel Datsyuk and Alexander Semin were the last the leave the ice at the morning skate. They were trying take away the puck from each other. Semin could not beat Datsyuk, even when he stepped with his skate on Pavel's stick, and then fell on the ice. It seems physically impossible to take the puck away from Datsyuk.
And here's what the doctor ordered:
Update:
Russia 1, Czech Republic 2.
Fedorov didn't play in the 3rd after a collision with Ovechkin (because of it Czechs scored a breakaway goal).
Congratulations to Czech team, they deserved it. What a brutal year for Ovi. You win some, you lose some. At least they beat team Canada.
Now time to rest and come back with the hopes for a better season.

So what do we think Ovi's injury is? Groin pull since he's had them before? You can tell he's not his normal self.
I think that might be the injury too. Nevertheless, I hope that everything is well with him at the game today and he's not in much pain. (Or any, hopefully.)
Go Russia! <3
Some goals for Ovie would be nice today -- can't be anything too serious or else he wouldn't be playing.
Here's a feed for the TSN broadcast:

A 2c is needed more than a D especially if Carlson and Alzner are with the Caps next year. Volchenkov isn't the type of D the Caps need any way. The price sounds too steep for what he would bring.
lets go czech :)
It is totally unfair that Russia lost. Russia is much better than Czech republic. Russia deserved to win!! :(
Russia's team was better on paper, not on the ice. They were a no show.
*Sigh*
So close and yet so far.
Ovie, I hope your injury isn't too serious. It's time now to take a well-deserved rest, you gave it your all. True loyal fans like myself still support you 100%, unlike the fair weather bandwagon jumpers who are only there for you in good times.
I hope you enjoy your Moscow break and wherever else you go during this off-season. Come back to the Capitals in a few months rested and refreshed for another NHL season. Take time to reflect on the positives and whatever you feel you need to do to elevate your game to an even higher level. Good luck, and peace be your personal journey.
Great year Ovie! Others may not see it like that but it's good to lose -- hopefully Ovie can see what went wrong and think of some solutions.
I can see it already! The new and improved Ovechkin in the 2010-2011 season! :)
Have a great break Ovie!
I only wish Ovi would be able to just go back to Moscow. But he'll have to fly back to Las Vegas next month to watch Sid and Stamkos get their half-Richards, Henrik Sedin get the Ross, Hart and Pearson/Lindsay trophies, then watch his good friend and soon-to-be-free-agent Jose Theodore get the Masterton and leave for a new team.
He will be unfailingly gracious to everyone there, and will continue to be brutalized in the press, both here and at home.
Maybe he should go to Krasnoyarsk (Siberia) with Sasha. It's quieter there. And Nicky was hoping AO can stop by his new house in Gavle.
My mother played basketball against Ovi´s years ago and She says...and we all have to admit..Alex was the only one, from russian team, who kept his silver medal on his neck during the final ceremony and He is the only one, who really deserves it.
Greetings from CZech Rep. We are the champions.......YEAH!!!
I'm completely shocked with what the Russians did. I thought they would be more proud of themselves -- second place that's pretty damn good! How they can just take off the silver medals and treat them as nothing is beyond me.
Good for Ovie for keeping his on! The whole team should have be proud of what they accomplished. Once again it proves how much Ovechkin loves to represent his country and to play hockey.
Ovie – You may think this a difficult year, but don’t disregard all the successes for it was also an amazing year. Thank you for yet another fabulous and exciting year with the Caps, for helping the Caps achieve its most amazing season yet, for exemplifying true loyalty, dedication, and dignity. As an American, I respected and appreciated your decision to play for your country; as a Caps fan, I was thrilled to be able to continue cheering for you while watching you play in the World Championships. No matter who you played with, the heart always raced when the puck was on your stick. The hearts of all your fans and supporters are still with you!! Go home, heal, rest, and reflect, and know that your fans will enthusiastically rejoice to see you playing hockey again in the fall. All the best – I can’t wait to see what plans you and Nicky have for winning the Cup!
Ovie's actions at the final ceremony has made me proud to stand behind such a wonderful player. It is so condescending to the championships (and Russia) for the rest of the team to just cast off their silver medals like they don't mean a thing. Alex represents my generation well (he's only a few months younger than me). He partys hard, but he works harder. He is honest, noble, honorable and proud. I am so proud of you, Alex! Now go home and take a rest. You deserve it. :) <3
How the Russians have fallen from grace. They won't go anywhere in Sochi. They can't play D for squat. Their defense is offense. Did you see how many scoring opportunities they allow weaker teams?
Sure the Russian has amazing offensive talent, but they don't mesh well together. That said, when they pass the puck, it's absolutely beautiful to watch.
I can't wait to see them get owned in their home land in 2014 hahahaha!
@Dawn, thank you for putting my thoughts into words!
Greetings from Bulgaria,
We are sorry the season ended so badly for Ovi and the Russians.
Rest up Ovi, Semin, and Feds. (I say that for Feds even though he's not a Cap any more).
May Ovi and Semin both have a better year next year.
@Dawn, you sound like you're the age of my first child. (She is also a few months older than Ovi but also born in 1985).
@Verjinia - You're very welcome. :) I am very glad that I was able to do so for you.
@Diane - I was born April 3rd, 1985. :) When was your daughter born?
Ovie, I'm proud you are a Cap and the captain of the team. You were classy in defeat at the WC.
Rest up, heal, and regain your joyous spirit. I can't wait to watch you again next season!
@Dawn
(She was born on Feb 20, 1985, a little over a month before you.)
Now we're really off topic.
Once again, let's see better luck for Ovi and Semin next year.
> They won't go anywhere in Sochi. They can't play D for squat.
Yeah, agree, but they beat Canada in Tourine, Italy. Have you forgotten that? And Ovie scored GWG.
Canadians learned from that, apparently Russians didn't. But it goes forth and back.
A lot can change in four years -- don't be so cocky yet! Sochi 2014 is gonna be great either way.
I don't know if Ovi ever gets to read these posts, but it'll make me feel better to write it this way:
Ovi,
Good for you for keeping your silver medal on! It says a lot about who you are and demonstrates good sportsmanship. I hope the rest of the team comes around and realizes that while there is no question that Russia deserved to win the gold, silver is nothing to sneeze at. But I'll admit that I drowned my sorrows in a 750 ml bottle of Vodka for you. As a Caps fan, I strongly believed that you guys deserved and needed this victory, not just for your country, but for yourselves. I was rooting for you, Semin and Varly - I had to - you're my guys. While you might feel that this is another failure, I'm proud of you guys. You and Semin scoring impossible goals and Varly making impossible saves. You gave us a great and memorable season with breaking and surpassing a win streak record, a President's trohy, and so much more. in spite of being defeated in the quarterfinals. I was heart broken, too - I cried for 2 days. But, Ted Leonsis said that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. He's right; it's the hard knocks in life that make us better and stronger. So remember your victories and learn from your mistakes. Stay healthy, get rest, heal your mind, body and spirit. I am looking forward to another great season starting in the fall. I will definitely go through hockey withdrawal this summer. And as far as Volchenkov goes, we will have to pay a pretty penny for a good stay at home defenseman no matter who it is. I believe that's our missing peice to winning a Stanley cup. If the rumor is true, then convince him to come to DC. You have good chemistry with him as a friend and bringing that to the team is only going to make it better.
Your favorite and forever faithful fan,
Niki

Well said! Took my sentiments and articulated them properly in way I couldn't have done.
RT has an article and video on the Russian Team arriving in Moscow. Varly looks amused by the crowd outside the airport.
Small glimpse of Ovie in locker room footage.

@Mily
Awe, thanks, you're sweet = ). I feel appreciated.
Caps forever!

Re: article/video of Russian team arriving in Moscow. I went to the link you gave, but couldn't find the article. Do you know the title of the article so I can search for it?
@imahocekyholic/Nikki
No problem!
My respect for Ovie went up as, if I'm not mistaken, he was the only one to wear his silver medal.
I think that not wearing it was disrespectful to the Czech. Even though Russia was the clear favorite, the fact that they would do that is like spitting on the opposing team.
It looks like RT changed the location. Try this link:

@TJ,
Do you know what the story is on Ovie returning from Koln with a German shepherd? Photos are in LifeSports.
I don't like the removing of the silver medal either, but other teams have done it at the WC in past years. It isn't just the Russians.
If the RT article and video (it is the 3+ minute video, not the shorter 45 second one) gets lost again, then it is titled with a Bykov quote, "Any medal except gold leave bitter taste."
It's time for Ovie to have a great summer and relax. I dont think he is obligated to go to Vegas, but I think he will just for fun, he said that he had a great time last year.
I hope he as a restful summer and comes back strong next season. I hope he doesnt feel as pressured next season (no Olympics, Worlds..etc) and he can focus on winning and help the Caps get what they want!!
I cant wait to see happy, fun loving Ovie pics! Pics of him hitting the clubs in Moscow or just relaxing up at Semin's or turkey. He deserves it!
As for the Russian team, seems like they arent much of a "team" more like individuals. When they learn how to play as a team, they will succeed.
@Diane My hubby's b-day is Feb. 20th, wont say what year though..hehehe!
I second what others have said about Ovie keeping his silver medal on despite his disappointment over Russia's loss. I've been a fan of the Capitals for far too many years to count, and a fan of Ovie since he was a rookie. I've admired him from afar for the past 5 years, and his behavior after the WC has elevated him even higher in my respect for him as a player and as a human being.
Ovie has always been gracious in defeat no matter how hurt he must feel. I wish more pro athletes were like him. I'm an even bigger fan of his now, and I never thought it would be possible to like and respect him more. Get some rest Ovie, and come back to the Capitals and your fans with more energy and desire than before. Yes, we all want to see you happy and smiling again very soon.
