See, Crosby, you could've been back in Canada tomorrow!
And don't worry, nobody would take the dryer that you left in Mario's basement.
Canada gets crashed by Russia, 2:5.
They [Ovechkin, Semin, Varlamov] could be on a golf course or at the beach, but they are playing their hearts out for their country. I am happy for them.~ Ted Leonsis
Damien Cox:
Steve Downie should never, ever play for Canada. Slewfoots Semin, then tries to fight Fedorov. Don't know what Messier was thinking.
TarikElBashir: Ovechkin stung by a C. Perry slash. Seemed to miss a shift, but returned to the game ...angry.
TarikElBashir
Whatever part of his lower body, ahem, Ovechkin was slashed ...2-time MVP seems fine.

So Corey Perry speared Ovechkin in the yambag (a.k.a. "pulled a Ryan Whitney")? Unsurprising move from that guy.
nateewell
@JapersRink Is that a Whitney or a Briere?
JapersRink
Whitney's (1/25/06) pre-dates Briere's (12/26/06).
nateewell
@JapersRink Thank you for the clarification. Correct, sir, as usual.

@nateewell 2006: a rough year for AO's man-area, apparently (though I'm sure it did fine off the ice).

nateewell: Alex Ovechkin is about to face off against Brooks Laich. This makes me uneasy unless it's for the Duchesne Cup.
You know, I love Brooks Laich, but I'd go with Alex Ovechkin. Easy choice at least for me. Hopefully it won't get ugly. I don't want Laich to be traded because he is the great guy, no question about it. He is a patriot just like Ovechkin and not like Crosby who refused to defend the honors of his country in Germany.

I don't think there's any bad feelings between Ovie and Brooksie, at least I hope not. I applaud BL for choosing to play for Team Canada after a long grueling season and disappointing playoff loss. Unlike, you know, that guy from the Penguins. What's his name again?
I do too. Hopefully they will figure it out. Unfortunately they could be like brothers on opposite sides during civil war.
I hope they will understand and forgive each other for what had happened.
It's just hockey, that's how it goes. Kovalchuk and Ovechkin are friends, but when the Thrashers* faced off with the Caps, he and Ovechkin were opponents. That's all.
*When Kovy was still with them, obviously.
TSN highlights showed the "fight" between Ovie and Laich and all they were doing were smiling and talking to one another in the middle of a scrum-no bad feelings :)
@hockeyfan,
Yeah that's what I saw too -- they were just laughing LOL!
Does anyone have a better link to Perry's slash on Ovi? The one they have over at tsn only looks like Perry slashed Ovi in the stomach and not that "other area."
Cliff notes:
-Team Russia had 14 Olympian.
-Team Canada had 1.
-The was vast majority of team Canada were rookies and second year players.
-The vast majority of Team Russia's players were veterans.
-Russia beat a "team Canada" that included guys like Ott, Downie, Laich lmao.
This victory means squat. Canada still>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Russia
Psh, quit making excuses, Anon. Your team failed. Get over it, quit being a sore loser AND a xenophobe, and do something more productive with your life besides posting an anonymous post on a blog, downing Ovie and team Russia and thinking it makes your penis any larger. Jeez.
This is towards 2nd Anon, not the first. :P
No, this victory means a little revenge. And do you think your kids will know who was playing? In the history books it will be Russia 5, Canada 2.
I can also mention that Russia once brought a rookie's team to Canada's World Cup and they lost it. But who knows about it? Do you? Again, inthe history books it was Canada's victory over Russia, that's it.
Another dig at Crosby just gives more food for the trolls. I'd rather TJ and this blog stay above the mud slinging.
Re: Ovie-Brooksie, others have already posted that they weren't fighting each other. Ovie was mostly battling Downie. The angle of the photo is misleading because video shows Ovie emerging from the scrum, looking to the side, seeing Brooksie, saying something, then turning back toward the scrum again.
As for the spearing, there is an excellent photo of the result - Ovie on the ice clutching "that area."
The photo was posted towards the end of the Japers' Rink game chat:

There is also word that Ovie might miss tomorrow's game due to a minor injury, but would play Sunday if Russia advances.
Canada lost, so all sore losers should just get over it. This is the team that was sent to the WC, so a loss is a loss. Is it Russia's fault they regarded the tournament more important than Canada did? In the future who will remember all the players on the team? As tj already said, all that matters is the score: RUSSIA 5 CANADA 2.
