Ovechkin: if you work hard, anything can happen
Alexander Ovechkin was on radio station Mayak (Lighthouse) today. If USA has 4 time zones, Russia has 9 (UTC+02 to UTC+11). Mayak is retransmitted and can be heard from the most western Kaliningrad between Poland and Lithuania on the Baltic Sea to Sakhalin island that is few miles away from Japan.
Ovechkin confirmed that he recorded the song and said that he tried to enjoy the life while he could, he shared his opinion about he books, the literature and said that he would love to meet meet with the legendary basketball player Michael Jordan and rapper Eminem. He didn't forget to mention the Washington's goal in the upcoming season and gave a comment about the prospects for the Russian goalkeeper Semyon Varlamov. "I never thought I could become a a politician. When the time will come, perhaps something can happen. But now my goal is to play hockey and not think about the politics. I recently recorded a song, it will be published later. I recorded it with Zhigan. You will hear it soon.
To be a rock star? I don't have the looks. You need long hair, earrings in the nose and ears, and dye your hair, it is not me. I go to the parties for fun, I like being in places where it's noisy and fun. I don't like a boring company, when you sit at a table and discuss the world's or global problems and stuff. Now it's time to enjoy the life while you can. I watch the news, but only when there is a possibility.
I read the books when possible. I like the gangster genre. The last one I've read was called "The knife in the heart." Who wrote it? I don't look at the author. In general, reading the books, this is not mine. But if I can, I can always read a page or two, and I'll be happy. After I'll finish my career I can write an autobiography. Right now I don't see the point of doing it. No, I haven't read the books of famous hockey players.
Yes, I think that your earnings depend on the effort you've spend on doing it. Of course, there are times when luck is on your side, and you think that you know your destiny. But if you think that you can sit on the couch and then wake up famous, then this will won't happen. You need to work, work hard, you have to sacrify. As for the fate, then I do not want to know what will happen to me in the future, I know that now everything is as it should.
Now it's time to move on, there is no limit to perfection. The hockey players have one goal and it is victory. If you don't want to win, why do you want to live. As for loses, without them the victories won't happen.
Will I be a coach one day? I don't know. We'll see when I'll finish playing. Now I want to be successful only in sports. Politics, design, it's all will be later. Maybe.
Who would I like to meet? I would like to meet Michael Jackson, but this won't happen. I think there's still an opportunity to meet with Michael Jordan. And I really love hip-hop and Eminem, so I'd really love to meet him. Yes, I've always have his cd's in the car. My favorite song? Marshall Mathers. There are such cool words in t he lyrics: last year I was nobody, and when I got something, everybody calls and sends invitations. "Eight Mile" is an awesome movie. Eminem showed everyone that if you work hard, anything can happen.
No, I don't have a Facebook account. I had one on one site and they may have stolen pictures from there and placed it on a supposedly my Facebook account. And then I was hacked, and all photos disappeared.
The one and only goal of the next season is to win the Stanley Cup. Next year there won't be the Olympics, and as for the world championship... I want to go there, but my main goal is the Stanley Cup.
Will Varlamov be number one in Washington? God bless, I think he's ready for it.

There was a post in Life.ru that Ovechkin's account on Odnoclassniki was hacked, but you never know, it's Life.ru for God's sake. There's no fine line between the truth and BS for that tabloid.

The U.S. has 6 time zones (Alaska and Hawaii/Aleutian are the other 2 zones). If you count Puerto Rico/U.S. Virgin Islands and American Samoa then you bring the total to 8 zones. There are also other U.S. Pacific Territories and those island clusters have their own times too.
I'm feeling so nerdy this summer. :)
I'm waiting for Life.ru to report that Ovie is planning to meet Michael Jackson. Maybe Elvis will be in the building too.
It's nice that Ovie reads books, but only a page or two and he's happy? And he doesn't notice the author? I suspect something got lost in translation.
Perhaps he means page or two a day or something? I sometimes don't look at authors though. No disrespect, but I usually do end up knowing the author by the finish.
Oh, god. Life.ru has so much BS it's not even funny. Well, except when you translate it and the english is all weird, that's fun. lol
I still love him to death but I am a little perturbed that he doesn't like conversations with any substance. Maybe that's why he didn't stay with Katja? I don't know. She seemed like a smart girl and the rest look kinda like bubble heads. Hopefully, his opinion changes fairly soon or he'll probably be married to some gold digger or something before he realizes it.
Gangster genre? Was that a correct translation? Maybe it was meant to be crime novels, or something like that?
@Dawn - Since he can give interviews with substance, I don't think he has a problem with conversations with substance. To me, it sounded like he didn't want it all the time... I'm an npr junkie, but even I don't want that all the time. I do think that he's no longer fun 99%, serious 1%. He is maturing, so I think the number is now... fun 70%, serious 30%. And that's using a very loose definition of the word "serious"... :-)
@BobbyG - I didn't even catch Jackson the first time! I just *assumed* it said Jordan both times! But what if he meant Jackson, which is why he said it couldn't happen? I just got this hilarious image in my head of Ovie singing and dancing to Jackson tunes... :-)

You right, but what I meant is how the country is stretching from East to West. For continental US it is 4 time zones, I was not counting Hawaii. etc.

I was saying that Ovie was saying "this wont happen"... *because* he's dead! If he really meant to say Jackson, then he was just making a funny... The fact that he followed it up with saying that there was still an opportunity to meet Jordan is what makes me think he could really have meant Jackson (or slipped up and said the wrong name and turned it into a joke). Anyway, way too many words devoted to Jackson vs. Jordan... :-)

I think Ovie was talking about not having much time to read, so he can only read a few pages at a time.

I agree. I hope Ovie doesn't prefer clubbing over interesting and substantive conversation. He seems too intellegent not to want mental stimulation.
As for his choices in females, he keeps saying he wants to marry someone like his mother. I hold out hope that he means someone with not just her loving and nurturing qualities, but someone who has accomplishments outside the household too.
@O: yes, I thought something was lost in the translation when Ovie spoke about his reading only one or two pages.
And yes, I hope Ovie doesn't think that having a meaningful conversation about topics of importance makes him a "boring" guest or conversationalist. He seems very intelligent to me too. If I ever had an opportunity to spend time with him I'd want to talk about hockey for sure, but also other topics.
The way I read it is that he doesn't want to sit around arguing about politics. I don't think he's against having a serious conversation but he's not interested in debating his political views and I don't blame him.
He was asked about being in politics multiple times and gave the same answer every time "I'm not ready for that" which is what I believe what he meant about not sitting around discussing such things.
Considering all the things he does with charities there does seem to be a very serious side to him, when it is needed.
OMG...there's no pleasing some people. OV seems like one of the coolest, authentic, original, interesting people I have seen.
He likes to party and have fun which is not synonymous with being unintelligent! He seems to like interacting with people which means he has a high social intelligence.
He is also modest saying he doesn't have the looks to be a rock star. Personally I think he is wrong about that one. He is very cool looking.
Now the Canadian media wants to portray him as a villain again especially the ridiculous unauthorized biography due out soon. Its probably motivated by jealousy and hate and has little basis in truth.
I love it when OV says he will let his game speak for itself. Lets hope he can continue to withstand the critics so gracefully as he has in the past.
