Ovechkin goes to school

Ovechkin and Irena Mambetova, director of school No. 596 of the Northern administrative territory, Moscow. Sept. 1, 2010
The parents and children didn't notice him at first. A shaggy guy in a short leather jacket stood on the porch and smiled. His smile was showing a missing front tooth.
"Dear friends, our graduate Sasha Ovechkin came today to our first day at school celebration. A hockey player." said Irena Mambetova, director of school No. 596 of the Northern administrative territory.

Children and adults have gasped loudly "Oh!" and reached into their pockets for cameras and cell phones. The young man hesitated awkwardly on the spot.
The Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin, who signed a 124 million dollars contract with the club, is the richest hockey player in the world. He graduated from school No. 596 in 2001, but regularly visits the school since then.
"He visits us on the Day of Knowledge, and on March 8th [International Women's Day] and on the Last Bell Ring Day," told the teacher to newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda. "He likes to visit us on New Year's Eve too. Of course, it's only when he is in Moscow." [And when last time he was in Moscow on these days? :-) -tj]
Sasha Ovechkin lived just 300 meters [yards] away from the school. His father still lives in that old nine-storied building.
"I remember Sasha growing up as a very good boy. When his class would go on a field trip, then you wouldn't have to worry about the chicken [food]. He'd take it for everyone," remembers smiling Irena Mambetova. "It was difficult for him to study though. His first training was at five in the morning, at Dynamo. And you still need time to get there! But he graduated the school with dignity."

If that shaggy guy in a short leather jacket and missing front tooth showed up at my school--LOL!
What a great story, and what a wonderful surprise for the kids. Ovie continues to give back and shows he's much more than a superstar hockey player. He's a terrific young man, a warm and generous human being. GO OVIE!
Aww, I love hearing about him when he was younger. It's cool that he does stuff like this. That picture is too cute, he looks very shy sometimes. But then again, he seems like he's a pretty shy guy when you really think about it.
More people should see this side of him and maybe they'd stop chirping him all the time. He's such a good person, honest and loyal.
-Random note: I had a dream the other day where I was hugging him. Friendly hug and we were both laughing. I think at someone who apparently wasn't important enough to remember. I felt really calm and happy when I woke up, too. lol Thanks dream-Alex!
He seems like he'd give nice hugs... lol
/end weirdness
:0)
It's nice that he has such pleasant memories of school that he returns to visit whenever he's in Moscow during the school year!
I don't quite understand the food/chicken comment in the story. Maybe I need to read it a few more times!
The shaggy haired boy looks a little less shaggy. I bet Momma O got a hold of him again :)
@Mango,
I wouldn't say he's shy. It's more humbleness, uncertainty and bashfulness that comes to the surface periodically.
Great dream.
I had a dream about Papa Ovi managing a store I didn't know I owned.
@mkat83,
I didn't understand either, that's why I put [food] in there. Maybe she remembered one particular trip when Ovi brought home cooked chicken and everybody had a piece, I dunno...
