Ovechkin talks to media after morning skate

washcaps: Ovi, Green, Bradley, Boudreau, Eakin, Perreault all speak after morning sk8 about playing at VC tonight

Who could've believe it? :-) Paul Kukla got tricked by Life.ru via Pravda.ru!

By Michelle Scalise, CSNwashington.com:

The Pravda Newspaper out of Russia must have their facts wrong. The paper reported that Alex Ovechkin will be recording a hip hop track with international sensation Eminem.

"It would be such an honor for me, because I am a big fan of Eminem. I always have his CDs in my car, and I would be very glad to meet him. By the way, Eminem's 8 Mile film is just great," Alexander told Life Sports, according to the article.

Nate Ewell, the Capitals VP of Communication confirmed the reports are just not right.

"Not to ruin everyone's fun, but all signs I have point to the Ovechkin/Eminem story being false."

Mike Vogel, Dump'n'Chase:
With Fleischmann out, Mathieu perreault gets the top center slot tonight, skating between alex Ovechkin and mike Knuble. Those two big rig wingers are used to skating with Nicklas Backstrom, who has a tendency to slow the game down somewhat. That’s not Perreault’s style; he’s more “go, go, go.”

I asked Boudreau how he thought Perreault’s style would mesh with his new linemates.

“I think they’ll be able to adjust,” says Boudreau. “Knuble doesn’t go, go, go very fast. I don’t think [Perreault] will be in awe of those guys. That’s why I’m putting him up there. Sometimes, you put guys in that position and they go, ‘Oh my God, I’ve got to get the puck to Ovi.’ And that was the greatest thing about Nicky. He didn’t give a crap. He was playing his game and if [Ovi] was open, he’d get him the puck.

“I think Matty should do pretty well.”

Did someone say Papa Ovie is in town? Mama Ovie must be in DC too. Ovie has had a haircut and shave since the earlier training camp photos and videos.

I have a question I've wanted to ask for a while and never got around to it. What is the significance of the colors of the Caps practice jerseys? I understand the red and white ones, but why do some guys wear black, gray, and green--what's up with that? I think I saw powder blue jerseys in some photos from a few days ago.

Sometimes the colors represent the different lines, or the D-men might have a different color than the forwards. Also if a player is coming back from an injury and has started skating with the team again they might wear a different color, aka the "no contact" sweater.

I don't live in DC and I've never seen a Caps practice so I can't speak about them specifically, but this is what other teams I've watched do.

...dude, is that "A" on Semin's chest for real? OMG! If it is... I might just cry. :0)

Also, I'm glad the Caps are doing well so far- why aren't the games being broadcast?!?! Wah!

@BobbyG,

It is usually:
red = 1st line
grey = 2nd line
green = 3rd line
white = 4th line
black = defense

Players on the injury list have worn yellow and light blue when I've seen them.

@Mango,

Yes, Sasha had a "A" on his sweater.

For the pre-season home games, the Caps are streaming them on their site, but heavy traffic volume causes the video player to go down periodically. The Caps try to post an audio stream for away games.

@stephy and O: thanks for the clarification about the practice jersey colors

@Mango: your eyes weren't playing tricks on you. As O also noted, Semin wore an A on his jersey for tonight's game. At least it's not a scarlet letter, otherwise I'd suspect the Coach was sending him a message LOL.

THAT IS SO COOOL!! I'm probably too happy about that, but I hope he has a good season! I really want him to stay on the team and do well.

And that's coming from a primary Leafs fan. lol

Also, I can't help noticing how many times Ovie has mentioned that Sasha can speak English... maybe he was told to tip him off that he should start speaking English to the media? lol
I'm pretty sure everyone has already guessed he actually can speak English these days.

Who knows, Ovie is strange. lol

One more thing: I cringed as I watched the Bruins' Greg Campbell send Ovie headfirst into the boards late in the game. I don't blame Ovie for his retaliatory slash on Campbell. I wonder how much more of this crap will go on in the regular season, with opposing players taking liberties against the Great 8. We'll find out soon enough.

@Mango: Ovie is beyond strange at times, which is why he is such a unique and special individual. He seems to inhabit his own private universe. We're fortunate when he allows us to glimpse his alternate reality. :)

@BobbyG I went to the game. DJ King had a nice long fight with Shawn Thronton that he won. His fight really got the crowd going, it was quiet before that. He saw what happened to Ovie and said he'd remember it for the next time he played the Bruins. So I think opposing players might lay off Ovie after seeing others getting pounded by King. Hopefully it will work.

@Mango,

Further clarification about the "A", people have posted that it was given to the two players that have been on the Caps the longest. That's Gordon and Semin.

That's still cool though. Might explain why Brooks doesn't have one, because he'd probably be Capitan if Ovie wasn't there. lol
