Ovechkin welcomes Kugryshev

You've probably seen this video before, but this is HD quality...

By Katie Carrera, Washington Post, Sept. 13, 2010:

In planning for his third rookie camp since he was drafted in 2008, Dmitry Kugryshev knew he wanted to come to Washington early - not a week or few days early, but almost a month prior to the start of official practices - to train and work with the Washington Capitals' strength and conditioning coaches.

But Kugryshev, 20, needed a place to stay, so he called Alex Ovechkin.

Ovechkin, who spent the offseason in Russia, won't return to the Washington area until later this week, but he didn't hesitate to help his young teammate and fellow countryman.

"He just said, 'No problem,' " said Kugryshev, who stayed at the Arlington house with Ovechkin's older brother Mikhail, until rookie camp formally began this past weekend. "It's good to have Ovie's help. It's better when I come early for me to stay there than be alone. We can talk in Russian all day, have fun . . . it's more like home."

Ovi, can I borrow your AMG? :-)

Well, Mikhail has his own house, so where exactly Dmitry stayed?

That's so cool! Not that I wouldn't expect that since he seems like such a nice guy, but it's still cool to hear proof of such acts. :0)

My thoughts are Mikhail probably looks after the place while Alex is gone? Maybe? lol That or he didn't want Dema to get bored or lonely. lol

Didn't Ovie's mom say she worries about him getting taken advantage of because he's so thoughtful and trusting. Not saying this is a case at all lol Just reminded me of that. Plus, I'm pretty sure it was along with the subject of him and women lol

I had a post about Kashirsky that he actually lived in Ovi's house in the summer. So maybe Nikita didn't want Dimitry to disturb him? :-)

Since Mikhail has his own house, why would he want to live in Ovi's? Esp. because Mikhail smokes and I a pretty sure smoking is not allowed there.

Makes sense, he probably asked Mikhail to room him then. The article said him and his family help them out, so that would make more sense I guess lol But it also says Varly stayed there too so who knows lol

Varly's mom came with him, so she was staying there too most likely.

Really nice of Ovie to help all these guys out.

Mikhail can always go outside and smoke. That is probably what Ovie's father has to do (I hope).

I saw this the other day posted On Frozen Blog. It's great that the Caps superstars are so generous and giving with their younger inexperienced countrymen teammates:

"The past couple of hockey seasons, Alexander Ovechkin has played the role of gracious host at his Arlington home for the organization’s young Russian prospects. He will likely do so again this fall, offering home-cooked meals, sight-seeing excursions, that sort of thing. With the arrival this autumn of a modest contingent of young Swedes for rookie and training camps, Nicklas Backstrom is playing a similar role with his younger countrymen."

Yeah, Mikhail is probably there to make it more comfortable for them. It wouldn't really make sense to just give them a place to stay, they still wouldn't have a clue what was going on lol

Also yay Backstrom doing it too! I think I heard something about him getting Theo's house? Not sure if it's true...
