Some excerpts from Malkin interview

Pittsburgh will play Washington in the open air under the "Winter Classic" project on Jan. 1. Does it hurt that this time you won't be able to celebrate the New Year's Eve ?[In Russia it is main holiday instead of Orthodox Christmas that follows it -tj]
Playing in the NHL I've missed so many holidays that I don't pay attention anymore.

Have you been on the football game in Pittsburgh? Can you imagine how many people will gather in the stands at the arena for your game?
I was there like 5 times. Now I even understand the rules of American football, and I like it. The stadium itself and the atmosphere is impressive. I think our game against Washington will be an extraordinary event.

For your friend Maxim Talbot this match will be beyond the matter of principle. You have certainly heard of his criticism of Alexander Ovechkin, have you?
Of course I've heard. But here is hard to say anything definite. I recently talked with Talbot. Maxim said that his words simply were not interpreted right. Here is it's hard to say who is right or wrong. I think we'll meet again before January, and will find out.
Ha!

It's been heart-warming seeing so many Caps participate in charitable events this summer. Nothing feels better than helping others in need.

"Maxim said that his words simply were not interpreted right."

ooooookay Malkin. Trying to be all neutral and crap. Anyone who listened to the audio knows he straight up said it. I don't really care that he called him a D but my philosophy on sh!t talking is this: don't say anything about someone you wouldn't say to their face or without explanation to back it up.

I agree with O. It was a great thing for Ovi and Kovy to organized the hockey game for charity this summer for the victims of the wild fires. It was also great for Semin to speak to the kids at the orphanage in Krasnoyarsk and donate so much sports equipment.

My kudos to them.

I've never been much of a Kovy fan, but I will give him props--and of course to Ovie too--for organizing the charity hockey game. I am very impressed with both of them, and also Semin, for their great charitable work.

As for Malkin's comments: to be fair to Geno, he's between the proverbial rock and a hard place when asked about the Ovie vs. Talbot brouhaha. He's Ovie's Team Russia teammate, and Talbot's Pens teammate so he has to walk a tightrope so as not to offend either. Geno might have his own personal opinion--he said he talked to Talbot--but I'm not surprised he didn't take sides when asked this sensitive and delicate question. IMO Geno was being diplomatic, and understandably so.

I know Bobby, I was just poking at him for being so neutral. :) I completely understand. I just think the whole "it was taken out of context" excuse was a lame cover in this situation. lol

I don't blame Geno, I probably would have said the same thing if I was in his spot, but this whole "taken out of context" thing is hilarious to me.

Having heard the interview, I have no idea how it was taken out of context. He called Ovi a douche and that's that. Talbot, man up to what you said and if you didn't mean it, just say it wasn't a polite thing to say and be done with it. But don't backpedal and try to act like you said something else...

I wouldn't blame Evgeni either, it's a hard place to be in. He just said that is what Talbot said, not what he thinks. I like that he said it's hard to say who is right here. It seems like he knows Ovie is in the right, but can't really say that w/o seeming like he's choosing sides, you know.
