Ovechkin leads the team

What a game! Ovi scores two, one of them is GWG(game winning goal), 5 fights to follow, Greenie drops 'em vs. Kovalchuk and in other fights Caps take an edge (well, maybe Chimera lost his, that's it).

Clarkson vs. Chimera

Rich Chere/The Star-Ledger:

David Clarkson fought twice. He punished Jason Chimera at 4:03 of the third period and then got knocked down by a Matt Bradley right when they fought at 15:49.
Rod Pelley fought Matt Hendricks and the most costly altercation was P.L. Letourneau-Leblond’s battle with Marcus Johansson. Because it occurred in the final five minutes, Leblond will be suspended for one game. MacLean gets a $10,000 fine if the suspension is upheld.

Kovalchuk's signing created a huge problem for NJ GM Lou Lamoriello. They dressed only 20 players for the game vs. Caps. Martin Brodeur is definitely showing his age. Unless Kovalchuk will stand on his head I don't see any light for Devils in the near future.

Tarik El-Bashir, The Washignton Post, Oct. 9, 2010:
"When Alex scored, it was like the air came out of a balloon," Coach Bruce Boudreau said. "The guys finally got a lead in the second period. We were tough on them yesterday. The coaching staff was pretty upset with the way we played" in the 4-2 loss to the Thrashers.

And for a while, Boudreau and his staff continued to fume as the Devils took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. But after Tomas Fleischmann evened the game 1:59 into the second period, it was all Ovechkin and the Capitals from there.

"Everybody played bad [Friday] night," Ovechkin said. "Tonight, we moved our legs and finished out checks. We played better in the neutral zone, defensive zone. And guys like Brads [Matt Bradley], Chimmer [Jason Chimera], Greenie [Mike Green] and [Matt ] Hendricks do unbelievable jobs protecting our guys and protecting themselves."

Awesome LamborGreenie edges Kovalchuk. Well, sorry Ilya, but Pavel is a better fighter :-)

Pelley vs. Hendricks

Ovechkin talks after 7:2 win over Devils:
"Everybody played bad last night and tonight we moved our legs and finished our checks, played better in the neutral zone, defensive zone. I think guys like Brads, Chimmer, Greenie and Hendricks do unbelievable jobs protecting our guys and protect themselves. It was a pretty big step for us tonight."

Ovi's stats:
2 goals, 1 assist, +2, total ice time 19:17, 17 shifts, average shift 01:08, PP 05:35, even 13:42, 5 shots on goal, 5 attempts blocked, missed, 2 hits

Ovi is also in NHL's three stars of the day.

So good to see Ovie score again! It was a long offseason...He really sounds more mature this year, judging from his postgame comments...

The Caps came out like they were sleepwalking--except for John Carlson. Then it was like a light switch got turned on--an Ovie supernova light switch--and the rout was on, Brodeur was gone, the Devils were toast. What a game!

What a crazy game. I'm glad our boys pulled together and came out of it with a strong win and no one hurt.
