Washington loves Alex Ovechkin.

But does Ovechkin love us back, asks Reliable source (Washington Post)?

"D.C. is a quiet, calm family town," the Capitals superstar opines in the November issue of GQ. Which is why the 25-year-old multimillionaire headed to Russia in the offseason -- where he's one of the country's most eligible bachelors. "If you compare Russia and America," he told the magazine, "they are two different worlds. People, cars, clothes. Girls' figures. Especially girls' figures. Why do you think that is, that when an American goes to Russia for a week, he stays for two extra weeks? Girls! And when a Russian goes to America for a week, he leaves in five days."

Okay, then. Ovie said there's no serious girlfriend at the moment, just a "very good" friend. And lots of "high quality" action at the best nightclubs in the country. "In Moscow, if you have money, you're king," he explained. "If you don't, sorry, man, get lost. I mean, it's like this everywhere. But in Moscow, it's much more hard-core."

What do you think?

I think he likes DC to an extent, but still doesn't really know what the area has to offer. A lot of that is due to his hockey schedule, but I think he doesn't like doing new things/exploring. He doesn't go beyond the familiar. If you don't get to know a community on many levels, then you remain an outsider no matter how long you live there.

He also likes the supportive fan base, but doesn't engage with them like some of the other players do, so again, he remains apart.

I also think he does like the quieter-than-Moscow aspect because it gives him time to focus on hockey. Let's face it, an NHL season dictates a player's schedule, even what you do in your downtime. If you're not working out or playing a game, chances are you are eating, napping, flying to the next venue, or doing media/other team-related events.

He has indicated in the past that he likes the attention coupled with the respect of his space most people give him here. In Moscow he is hounded by the paparazzi.
He certainly loves the organization and his teammates.

My conclusion, he likes it but he still doesn't understand the people and the place.

"Girls' figures. Especially girls' figures." Ouch! Sounds a lot like Varly.

Anonymous said...

Yep, was just gonna say that Ovi and Varly both have a lot in common. Sad truth is that American woman ARE heavier than women abroad--way heavier.

However, Russian men do not seem to understand the notion of think before you speak.

Oh TJ, you might have gotten yourself into trouble by opening this forum ! lol You're brave !

It's not easy having to put on two different "faces" depending on where you are and who you're around. Ovechkin is forced to be two different people depending what country he is in. As much as he may wish to claim he is himself not matter where, no matter what, it's just not possible. Russian and American society won't allow it. It's not an easy game to play.
I can understand that. My life inside my career, and my life outside my career are complete opposites. If I were to let the two intertwine, I probably wouldn't have a career anymore. The things I do, say, and belive outside my job would have me ostracized at my workplace immediatly. I'm not saint and I admit it. It's stressful, and perhaps unfair, but that's life, and how well you cope with it depends on how well you can carry on the game.

Alex is still young and has a lot of growing to do. I shudder to remember the things I did at 25....Ok, some of them I am still doing !

all I'm going to say is he thinks the babushka women of Russia have "better figures" than American women? I think he is referring to the models that surround him whenever he goes home.

Anonymous said...

Last anonymous, I guess you've never been to Russia. Trust me when I say that everywhere you look, there are beautiful women, not just models. They would never think of going out of the house without makeup on and hair not done. They would never go out in sweats either.

Yes, there are older women wearing their babushkas, but the single women are not hiding their assets.

An article will never be an accurate reflection of what a person thinks or feels or how he really is, so until I get to ask the guy himself, I will believe about 50% of what I read.

As for him enjoying DC, it's probably pretty hard to do that when people recognize him everywhere. I doubt that he would be able to sit at a cafe in piece in DC and chat with someone like he supposedly did with the reporter in Moscow.

Cathy W said...

You had to know that this is what is going to get picked up about the QG article. If WaPo Reliable Source picked it up, fans of opposing teams that don't like him will pick it up too. He needs to learn that speaking to a media person, even if the writer speaks Russian, is not like speaking to your buddies. He generally seems more conservative in his interviews with US reporters compared to the Russian media but he still needs to learn to think before he talks to the any media person. He does not appear to comprehend that in using a broad brush to describe all American women who cause people to flee the US due to our bad looks and figures, that he has included season ticket holders for his team (whose money for tickets indirectly pays his salary) and mothers of children to whom he is currently marketing hockey skates. I don't care if all Russian women are thin and beautiful, there are some things that are better off left unsaid.

bwitch16 said...

Well at least he's not sending dirty pics of himself to girls yet(that we know of) a' la Brett Favre :-)

Part of why people got so upset over this article is because we like to think that our heroes are flawless, which of course they are not, and when the screw up, the fall so far off their pedistal.

But he will definitely have to answer questions about this foot-in-mouth answers for a while.

Ovi, I still love you but damn, get your mojo going already.

@Chris,

Obesity is the problem for the whole American society, not just for women, for men and children as well. As I read somewhere, it started in early 90's, before that Americans were slim and nobody knows why this started. The only state in the union, the only state that is not overweight on average is Colorado.

For Russians, who don't have as many cars compared to Americans, it's a daily exercise. They are forced to walk to bus or subway stations and it could be 30-45 min walk every day, and this is what the doctor ordered. They also don't have (for the most part) fast food restaurants which is evil.

As for 'girls figures', yeah, I didn't expect it from Ovi, I really didn't. You can think whatever you want, but you should NOT tell it to a reporter who preys on things like that.

stephy said...

@tj

Not only do people rely so heavily on fast food nowadays, but also the portion sizes are just getting outrageous. You can eat all the food you should be eating in an entire day in just one meal at a lot of these places.

Also I saw your comment in the other post - please keep updating. That's one of the great things about this blog, it's the ultimate source for Ovi info - ALL Ovi info. People all over the world love this blog, it would be a shame for it to go away.

Yikes the article gets worse. Steinberg has an excerpt of Ovie making out with Valeria on the ice while another girl Olesya takes pics, and then Ovie making out with the Olesya while Valeria takes pics.

Wikipedia: In human sexuality, making out is a sexual euphemism of American origin dating back to at least 1949, and is used synonymously with the terms "necking," "petting," and "hooking up", though "hooking up" is also used to imply casual sex.

I hope you won't believe that Ovi was doin' 'em on a public rink in the middle of Moscow city.

I read the whole article, so nothing new for me after Steinberg posted another excerpt.

Now imagine this burger has so many chemicals to preserve it, that it totally slows metabolism in your body. Even after this burger exited your body, the chemicals still circulate in your body for days.

I'd like to add how highly jealous I am here. Ovie has gotten to live out one of my fantasies of making out with 2 girls on an ice rink. Valeria in particular is not one of my fantasy girls, but still.....damned lucky guy.

I bet poor Nickys summer was not even close to being as exciting in Sweden, even though some of the Swedish girls can get kinda crazy. No, I'm not one of them (anymore). But the Gävle nightlife cannot rival the nighlífe of Moscow so he would have to go to Stockholm.

O said...

@Anonymous who said beautiful women are everywhere in Russia:

No, they are not. Russia has the same amount of ordinary and unattractive women as any other country has. You (and Ovie and Varly and anyone else who speaks in absolutes) just have blinders on.

Turn on programs out of Russia that show everyday people walking around the streets of Moscow and St. Petersburg or smaller towns and you will see more average than above average women. Some might be more fashionably dressed than Americans, but that doesn't improve their features.

O said...

@Cathy W,

Good points.

He is also tarring with that brush the wives, girlfriends, sisters and mothers of his North American teammates. Last time I checked, the NHL was still predominantly N. American in composition.

And if we're all so overweight and bad looking, why is he still checking out plenty of young females in the stands and practice and at games? Does he think he'll be a traitor to Russia of he says he's found some Americans attractive? (Hint: It's a global world, Ovie - enbrace it. You get a lot more choices that way.)

Anonymous said...

I have been to Russia too, and, umm, aside from hooker shoes and pancake makeup, I didn't see a lot of girls there skinnier or prettier than the girls here. Girls in DC rock designer clothes if he would look around. Some of the Russian girls I saw in Russia were still a bit chubby and rocked the 80's hair.. but hey to each her own.. I think I only saw one girl there I (and more importantly my attractive male friends) considered "hot."
Anyway, I have to say I'm a bit disappointed to read this even if it is what he thinks. Somebody needs to point out his/Varly's fans are females too and a lot of us are sick of this type of commentary coming of Russian mouths. Just state you prefer the Russian look and leave it at that. I think we all know that look is different from the American more natural look.

Now, bwitch, if he had said Swedish girls are better looking, I would have to give him that one.. I felt like an ugly troll there when usually I feel pretty enough to well, get a least a second look (even from some Russian men who shall not be named in the URL OF this website ..) Those ladies were so thin and naturally beautiful without trying.. I can understand if MJ and NB never ever date anyone not Swedish. I actually walked past a group of guys and girls and then turned around and looked again because I thought I imagined that much hotness in one spot. Seriously. not kidding. I have been all over the world and I never did that..

Jerk comments if they are true.. I think a bit less of him and Varly now. Thank goodness Semin has always been my favorite and so hopefully he will keep his ideas in his head. I can only imagine the comments would be more dry from him.

My husband and our traveling single male friends agree with me about the appearence of the ladies in this post....

Adding to the McDonald's, and fast food in general discussion...

The portion sizes at McDonals's in Moscow are the size they were in the 80s in the U.S. The "Super Size" menu additions of the 90s coincided with technology taking over lives and work and at home. When you have a computer at home, a computer at work, and a phone attached to you then you no longer have to get up to perform many tasks that used to require standing up and walking throughout the day. Time spent by commuters in their cars also multiplied during this time.

Fast, calorie heavy, nutirent light foods are also the cheapest foods in America.

An all-around bad combination.

"Ovie said there's no serious girlfriend at the moment, just a "very good" friend."

There was some discussion about this when the gf news first broke. Some posters wondered why Ovie spoke of Lera as a girlfriend, but on Facebook and other places she spoke of Ovie as a friend, not a boyfriend. I recall reading somewhere one of her Facebook pals shared a post of Lera's in which she asked why is it, just because people are seen together in public, they assume they must be bf and gf. Lera asked why is it so hard for some to understand that people can just be friends?

Maybe Ovie and Lera are just that, very good friends who enjoy each other's company and the Moscow scene. Or maybe they are throwing up a smokescreen to get the taboids off the scent, which obviously didn't work since Life.ru went to town on their lives anyway.

For now, because I want to believe Ovie is being truthful, and I want to believe Lera has also been truthful, I'll accept that he and Lera are very good friends until there is indisputable evidence that they are more than that.

mkat83 said...

Wowzers, I haven't commented on the article yet because I just didn't know what to say. I was not sure what I thought, but today I read the whole article. Geez.

I'm kinda flabbergasted by the whole skating rink thing and Ovi making out with each girl while the other one filmed. I mean really, don't do that with a freakin reporter watching. I know they were just kissing, but geez.

My interpretation makes it seem like Lera is something like a friend with benefits. That's just what came to my mind. I know he's from a different culture, and life is drastically different for someone who is wealthy in Russia, but I really can't get my head around using, "well, he's 25" as the excuse. I'm 27, and my friends and I were pretty sensible by age 25. But then again, we weren't superstar millionaires.

I know it doesn't really matter and is none of my business, but this has really tainted my image of Ovi for now. Maybe I'll get over it soon, especially if he starts to do some amazing things on the ice..... but until then......

Deep inside Ovi knows North American girls are the best, but he stubbornly denies it.

Want prove? He said at the Olympics that Russia has the best girls and cars... Excuse me, I didn't know that Mercedes was made in Russia.

So take it with a grain of salt, he tried to argue with the reporter, that's it.

Also you might forgot, but don't you remember why he loves Montreal? Girls, that's why. He was drooling all over. I bet he was saying 'boom' every freaking second.

The reporter obviously used all of that to make his article more attractive, and Ovi was so naive to buy all that.

My advise to Ovi: don't let reporters hang around you and peep into your personal life. You want interview? Ok, you've got an hour and get lost after that.

I read the whole article. He comes across as immature, but I think part of it was simply the writer's theme- Ovi reverts to high school during the summer.
If that scene of him mock figure skating was on youtube, everyone would think it was the funniest, cutest thing ever.

Yes, America has a weight problem (see the collected writings of Michael Pollan for great insight). Varly and Ovi really need to STFU about it. But I will admit that in my world travels when I was in my '20's, I said some pretty tone deaf stuff that makes me cringe now.

Mango said...

I'm pretty sure Semin said before that there are beautiful women everywhere, listed Brazil and somewhere else I can't remember as example, then said he prefers Russian girls.

Alex is human, a boy and 25 y/o. No technical excuse there, but I still see guys in their 50's, possibly older, hitting on young women- in bars, parks, stores, hockey games...

For example, I went to a Toronto Marlies game and two older gents were ogling the ice dancers (quite offensively, I might add.) Then a younger man who works there came over and joined in on the conversation! These are normal people, untouched by media and fame.

Guys will be guys(not that girls don't do their fare share of it)- hopefully Alex will be one who grows out of it. I wouldn't be too worried though, he seems to not get too attached to these women which is probably good, figuratively speaking. Maybe he's afraid of commitment? Who knows... it's his life, let him sort it out.

I personally don't care that he's shallow, everyone is. Its just tacky to be so VERBAL about it Ovi!

However, I do have a problem with him constantly talking crap on America and our people. Did you forget who writes your checks and buys your crap? Yeah, we're more relaxed in dress, focus on family and try to spend our money on things that we actually need but we're not a bunch of ugly ogre, overweight, cheeseburger inhaling, heart attacks walking around! He's comparing DC as if that IS AMERICA. It's not. Alex hasn't seen America. If he wants to find loose, STD riddled, gold diggers who only like him because he's famous and has money, then he should transfer to NYC or LA.

That'd be like me saying all Russian people are close-minded, selfish, conceded, pretentious, greedy a-holes with no real sense of lifes real values. Or go to Moscow and think every city in Russia is the same plastic, fake, 24-7 divide of self worth. But I only have a few references to base that on. It goes both ways!

I love Alex as a player but his thinking is a little warped, not sure I like him as a person. I'm tired of Varly/Ovi dumping on US in the press. If Russia is sooo much better then go home.

Anonymous said...

I was thining the same thing that "O" was. Did Ovie at any time think that he may be offending his teamates, his friends with his comments ? For example, it seems as if Ovie and John Carlson have really bonded in the last 2 seasons. John is American, and there's a good chance that is girlfriend is American. I'm not sure if John has sisters or not, but his mother is American. How does Ovie explain that one ? " All American girls are fat, except John Carlson's sisters ( if he has any), girlfriend, and mom" Lol.
Maybe this will come off as a big lesson in " think before you speak".

As JKC posted, Ovie is shallow to some extent, we all are, wether we choose to admit it or not. Being shallow and advertising it for eveyone, not so smart, being shallow and keeping it in private, probably smarter in the end.

Oh, and Semin is right, Brazillian chicks are hot, and I'm still jealous over the ice rink shinanigans.

tj said...

@JKC,

Wow, you are adding way too much to what Ovi said. He only said, mind you, while arguing, that his home town's girl figures are better, that's all.

How many Americans would say the same, or good things about their hometowns?

John Mellencamp Small Town lyrics :
No I cannot forget where it is that I come from
I cannot forget the people who love me
Yeah, I can be myself here in this small town
And people let me be just what I want to be

Now, he never said Americans were ugly. As for being overweight, you are adding it to what he said because it's a reality. Just watch Jeno Leno show, on any evening this is his theme: how overweight Americans are.

In his recent interview he said he prefers DC to Moscow when it comes to plays hockey. He even said it is very nice place to live and raise a family and he might even do that when he gets married.

So his two words 'girls figures' are really blown out of proportion. He didn't even say fat or overweight or something like that. Varly said that, not Ovi.

I am critical of Ovi in this story, but please don't add something or what he never said.

JKC said...

My comments weren't 100% directed at the article in GQ. He's talked about Americans as a whole several times in several interviews/videos. Yes, Varly said the ugly, overweight bit but I was using his words to describe the stereotype and not necessarily putting the words in Alex's mouth. :)

The article itself is unfortunate but I don't hate him. I still love him as a player because he's entertaining. I'm just disappointed in his character.

I think it's really weird how Russians are always like "Russian girls are the best" or they try to convince people that their country is attractive. All the Russians on the caps team have essentially said that Russian women are better looking, but I have also heard it from other Russians. However I don't hear this from people who have visited Russia though... I think that if you look at countries with legitimately beautiful women, you will notice that they don't feel the need to go around and tell everyone their women are beautiful. People can just see it. For example, Brazil and Australia. I think that saying those types of things is ignorant to other cultures. Obviously not every Russian does it, but those who are in the public eye (Ovie, Varly) are giving their country a bad rep and leaving a bad impression. Everyone can have their preferences but they do not have to be rude about it. I am not American, but I feel the way their women are portrayed by people like Ovie is appalling. Someone needs to remind him that it's because of Americans that he has the money he does.

The vast majority of us our dreadfully normal, although I have to admit that it's pretty damn cool to hang out at the beach all year round and see the Hollywood sign when it's a clear day!

Jess said...

Honestly I think that it depends on what you think is beautiful. Russian women look very differnt than American women. Ovi has also said in the past that there are pretty girls in the USA just nothing compared to the "Russian beauties" back home.

Dawn said...

@Martha - Henry Rollins lives in LA and he calls it the 'City of Whores.' :P So I guess fame whores out there would be pretty fitting? I know not all of you are like that though.

In general, though, I just want to say that, although I think the journalist misconstrued some of the things Ovie said in this interview, it still left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth about it all. I know I'll get over soon (especially since I just preordered the Ovie DVD :P)... but it perturbs me a bit at the moment. Hopefully, he will try some damage control because right now, it looks like he put his foot (with shoe included) in his mouth and kinda looks like a jackass. :/ And I don't want think Ovie is one. :(

Ovi didn't choose America, he chose the NHL. He could've been in Montreal now, and it's the city and the French Canadian girls he likes. But it happened to be DC because he was drafted here. He didn't refuse it like Eric Lindros, who didn't want to play in Quebec.

He likes DC now, better than NY and he names Montreal his second favorite city in N/A.

Don't go overboard, all he said was two words 'girls figures' while arguing.

tj said...

Well, that's said, he needs to show more love to America and American people, I agree on that.

Ok, Ovi, we know that you are a patriot, you love your country and your hometown girls, but... what about us?

Really, tell us, don't be shy....

Anonymous said...

I think TJ has it right:

Ovi is a patriot and he probably feels like he has to keep saying things like that about Russian women 'cause that's who he usually dates.

But let's hope that any backlash he receives from this will help him mature a little and hopefully he'll tone it down when he takes HBO clubbing. I'm sure Valeria will be there (he's probably already promised her he'd take her when they film), but let's not make out with a ton of women at once.

Anyhow, I'll bet that in the end, Ovi ends up marrying an American woman.

A few comments, I just came across this quote by Leonsis:

Leonsis then talked about how Ovechkin is “fundamentally, instinctively, a very gracious, very sweet, very well-behaved young man,” but how stories of his sweetness and grace don’t make news.

Also, I was thinking recently and realized something about Varly's comments: he had just spent a lot of time in Hershey when he said that statement about overweight women in America. I went up to Hershey 3 times this year for the Bears playoffs games after the Caps were out. I went to many of the tourist locations, including Hershey Park a few times. I couldn't believe how many very overweight people I saw there. Men, women, children, entire families. Just a huge amount of extremely overweight people all in one place. Also, many of them wore tight, unflattering clothing. I live in the DC area and I think there were at least 3 times as many overweight people in Hershey. I think I read later that PA is one of the most obese states. So while Varly's comments weren't kind, I could see how he was influenced being in Hershey.

BobbyG said...

@TJ: not to dwell on this subject any more than necessary, but the red flag for me in the article was Ovie's "cattle" reference and the heifer image that conveys. Poor choice of words, and too much showboating, and that's why I'm so disappointed with him now.

BTW, if Montreal is Ovie's second favorite NA city, what's the first? Is it DC, or did I miss something here?

And finally...what size is Ovie's mother now that she's 60 years old and out of athletics for a long time? I wouldn't bring up such a personal subject, but Ovie laid down the ground rules of beauty and what's desirable. How does he view his Mom, and even more importantly, how does she view his opinion of what makes a woman beautiful?

When Lera entered Ovie's life, I wondered what was it about her that caught his attention. Now I have my answer, in Ovie's own words, about his standards and criteria for a woman's appearance and behavior. Sorry Ovie, but if Lera is an example of what you consider a superior Russian woman compared to American women...:(

Wow, first we're going to bash on Californians and now people in Hershey ?? I live and work in Hershey and I'd just like to say don't rush back. I've been to the DC area plenty of times and could supply my own not-so-kind opinions.

@BobbyG

'cattle' reference?

"You should go pick up some telochki." The word literally means "calves" and semantically falls somewhere between "chicks" and "bitches."

Is that what offended you? I am sorry, but it's funny, it is completely and totally unoffensive in Russian, it is exactly the same as "chicks" in English.

The author is wrong about "bitches" reference. For that Russian have a word "suchka", that's a bitch. "You should go and pick some 'suchki'", lol, for that Russian girl would immediately slap you.

But I can see that Russian girl could get offended if someone would call her 'chick', translated, of course...

"Telka" is very soft and unoffensive, "telochka" is even less offensive.

And yes, DC is his favorite N/A city, Montreal is second. He said that in NY when he was promoting NHL 10, riding on Zamboni. I think he said NY was third, but that's being polite.

On the other hand I went mountain biking in Colorado and we played a game, who would first see an overweight person would win. Nobody did.

@BobbyG: REALLY? His mom? Wow! Talk about being classy...
I really don't know how you do things in your family, but I don't orient my taste in men around what my father looks like. If I did, Ovie wouldn't have a chance. So I'm assuming Ovie just loves his mom but wouldn't necessarily think she's desrieable in a sexual way...again, I'd be interested to know how those things are done in your family.
Oh and I am absolutely willing to admit that both my mom and dad are way over theit prime in looks and could lose a bit of weight. I still wouldn't call them fat or ugly and I'm pretty sure Ovie wouldn't either. But a fact is a fact is a fact, they're overweight. And that is all Ovie said, that American girls figures aren't as much to his taste as they are in Russia.
AAAND finally: being offended about his "cattle" reference? I was gonna rant on about how Russians have their own slang and telochki is not an offensive word for them, but I think TJ explained that already. Now on to my next point: your mad about a "CATTLE" reference? Are you offended when somebody say "chick"? Because last time I checked that originated from a reference to an animal as well. And what makes a bird baby so much better than a cow baby?
Sorry to have to be this blunt, but do you ever actually re-read stuff before you post?

As a patron saint of all things Ovie, I was a little set back by the GQ Article. I think I am going to have to take the high road because when you are 25, your brain hasn’t fully fused yet…It bothers me that he feels some kind of contempt for non Russian women fans who have supported him but I will have to chalk that up to limited education and life experience so far. I am just surprised that he hasn't been pulled aside by his parents especially his Mom who should know as a former Olympic athlete that a certain way to behave comes with the privileges that you are given. I am not saying that Ovie has to be perfect but in this day and age where your every move is tracked, it should be more of an incentive for better behavior. The one part of the article I whole heartedly agree with is the closing segment:
"Yet it's not easy to be where he is: in the gap between star and legend. All the perks are his (the next time I call him, he's midshoot on a Reebok commercial), but true glory is proving slippery. No matter how materialistic this post-Soviet boy comes across, he has signed up for more than this. And so have the fans. Ovechkin's massive fame is still a kind of loan, and it matures soon. This year better be legendary. This year better boom."

Ovie has said he wants a girl like his mother. His recent dating habits show him chasing the opposite type. They show no signs of becoming accomplished, multidimensional women with good character. I think he is making worse dating decisions now than when he was younger.

Also, since his mother is no paragon of Russian beauty, and in her youth could be generously described as 'handsome,' it is a bit surprising that he has such a narrow view of beauty outside his family.

The article is misleading on Ovie's education. He finished the equivalent of high school and while on the Caps he got a college degree through correspondence (and summer?) courses.

@Anonymous: YES he did...but I'm rather sure he didn't mean that he wants a girl that looks exactly the way his mother looks nowadays.
Well I agree that his dating choices are a bit of a riddle to me if he's really looking for a serious relationship. They don't seem to be that type of girl, but then again I don't know them personally and Ovie does. So he might know something I don't, which is why I won't judge his girlfriends. That is his job and it's his parents job to help him with that.

Just because he says that he prefers one type of women to other types does not mean he can't appreciate the beauty of other women. That's like me saying I prefer apple juice to orange juice and you saying "Well I'm disappointed you don't drink orange juice." If you could date somebody that is close to your image of perfection or somebody who you like equally, but who is less handsome, would you date the less handsome person? Well of course I'd like to date both, but if I had to pick, I'd date the handsome guy. And quite frankly, I've seen pictures of Ovie dating girls that are not all that beautiful, so IDK about him being narrow minded when it comes to beauty...

Ovi's mom was never attractive even when she was young. She was average. If Uncle Misha only chased beauties Ovi would've never been born.

@TJ: I still don't see the humor in the "calves' reference, but I'll take your word for it. IMO it was a poor choice of words. And thanks for clarifying Ovie's favorite NA city.

@Nie: I did NOT imply anything sexual between Ovie and his Mom! The thought is entirely yours, not mine. What goes on in YOUR family for you to come up with this idea??? I only asked the question as both comment and out of curiosity, since Ovie seems to place a very high value on physical appearance and certain behaviors as necessary for a woman to be beautiful. As the most recent Anonymous stated, good thing Ovie's Dad saw Tatiana's inner beauty and didn't place excessive emphasis on her outward appearance. If Ovie's Dad applied the same standards and criteria as Ovie does, Ovie never would have been born.
