Ovechkin became the face of Gillette
The Procter & Gamble company has announced that on Tuesday they signed a multiyear sponsorship deal with Russian hockey player Alexander Ovechkin, who will represent the brand of Gillette.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it is known that the Washington Capitals forward will appear in advertising and marketing projects of the brand in Russia and Eastern Europe.
"We are looking forward to work with Ovechkin in Russia and Eastern Europe and his support in promoting the latest addition to the line of Gillette Fusion and the new series of Gillette products for sensitive skin," said director of marketing for Gillette Russia Svetlana Stishkova.

Excerpt from the interview with Alex Ovechkin by sportbox.ru:
You just do not look like self today, instead of the usual bristles you have a clean-shaven face! Will you now shave in playoffs too despite the tradition?
Shave or not to shave is a private matter. I have not decided yet about playoffs, maybe I'll shave or grow a beard. By the way, in this regard we have an agreement with Gillette for me to comply with the sacred traditions. However it's too early to talk about it, first you need to get into the playoffs.
Do you want to bet in case you'll win the Stanley Cup? For example, to shave your head? Especially now, when you have the perfect tool, a Gillette razor?
If I shave my head, I'm better not to go to Russia in the summer! In reality I am very proud to represent Gillette in Russia and I want my friends and fans to just remember me every day, picking up a razor from this company. The Viking's times are long gone, and every man must look after himself.

Welcome back TJ. Glad you didn't go on permanent hiatus since this blog is the best there is on everything Ovi :-)
Not approving of the Gilette thing if it means that he has to stay clean shaven all the time. I prefer Ovi scruffy looking. But that's purely selfish me ;-)
That explains why Ovie has looked so clean-cut lately. Another reason could be Ovie wants to look this way for the HBO series.
@bwitch16: I'm in your camp so call me a bit selfish too. I like a little bit of scruff on Ovie. IMO he looks more manly and intimidating with some facial hair and his hair a little longer, but I suppose we have to make some sacrifices. I just don't want him to lose his mojo like the Biblical Samson LOL.
1) I prefer the scruff also. This is a huge mistake for him.
2) I picture an awesome version of the disembodied head ads. Guy opens his medicine cabinet and sees Ovie's head, which says, "The Viking times are over. Every man must look after himself!"
The Viking times are over? Nicky is sad. :(
He said him shaving is a private matter which leads me to believe it might have something to do with Valeria and her modeling and the scruff hurting her skin...pure speculation on my part but that's what I thought it might be. He's been clean shaven most of the season so far.
Hi, is Valeria still around? haven't seen her at the games lately? maybe she is in miami? working?
bg, It's an advert campaign, nothing more. And she hasn't been here since the 1st week of November.
Ovie's "private matter" statement was in response to the question about whether he will be clean-shaven or grow a beard for the playoffs. IMO it means he'll make his decision when it's appropriate. There's nothing more to it than that.
I saw Valeria this weekend when I was in NYC, but just in passing. She looked a lot different in person then in pictures, if I didn't know what she looked like I wouldn't have thought twice about her.
I agree with everyone else, I like Alex better with the scruff :)
good to have this blog back TJ, i'm glad it wasn't gone too long. and no promises but I am heading back to DC for a month so I hope to get some new ovie pics, and I like that he will be clean shaven, but he does rock the scruff rather well. Personally I prefer the short trim haircut with some subtle scruff but he does look very sharp all shaven :)
Anyways. good to have you and your blog back, wasn;t the same without you.
You all like him with scruff? I love it when he's cleaned up!
He did a good job in the commercial, but when and where was it shot?
