12/30/10 washcaps: Ovi, Knuble, Boudreau, Hannan, Fehr, Perreault and more speak about heading off to Pittsburgh
This must be an old video, but I haven't seen it. Some delay from ESPN, I guess, they just posted it. If he'll shoot the puck like that on Jan.1 the victory will be ours.
By Seth Livingstone, USA Today, Dec. 30, 2010 "Alex Ovechkin eyes explosion, tries to rebound from slump":
Ovechkin is taking heed.
"Shoot the puck, crash the net and find the rebound," he says. "It's on our shoulders. The power play was our key last year. Teams were afraid to take a penalty against us. Right now, we don't have a power play. We've played terribly — created some cute plays that don't work. It starts with me."
Perhaps getting back to his roots by playing outdoors at Heinz Field will be the ticket.
"I did (play outdoors) when I was a little kid, so it's not new for me," he says. "But the kind of experience we're going to have in a couple days — that's going to be pretty sick. (Playing in front of 70,000) is going to be a new experience. Everybody is excited."
And if it continues to get Ovechkin back on track, all that much better.
"Anytime anything goes wrong, Alex is the guy we look to," Capitals defenseman Mike Green says. "We need the leadership that he promotes within our dressing room. He really does care. All of us have to step up, but Alex is the one who kind of has the limelight on him."
Boudreau anticipates things will turn around.
"Eventually, something good is going to come from this," he says. "Alex is too good of an athlete, too good of a player, too good of a person for this to continue."
