Mojo should center Ovechkin from now on
26th goal, which is GWG and the first Ovi's PP goal at home since March of last year. Wow.
27th.
Really, do you remember when Backstrom last time has set up Ovi for a goal? I don't. Just the opposite, Backie's last goal was on awesome Ovechkin's pass from behind the net. Look, we know that Backstrom has a sub-par year, but there's something about respect as well. Tonight Ovi got it from Arnold and Johansson.
Keep Nicky off Ovechkin's line until he'll change. Caps beat Edmonton 5:0.
Quote of the day:
"If Obama was smart, he'd get Ovechkin in his cabinet."
~Pierre McGuire
Ovechkin's stats:
2 goals, 1 assist, +1, total ice time 18:39, 17 shifts, average 01:05, PP 06:12, even 12:26, 5 shots on goal, 2 attempts blocked, 1 missed, 1 hit, 2 giveaways, 2 takeaways
Ovechkin scored his 10th game-winning goal and leads the NHL in that category.
AP:
WASHINGTON — Alex Ovechkin had two goals and an assist to reach 601 career points, and the Washington Capitals beat the Edmonton Oilers 5-0 Wednesday night for their sixth consecutive victory.
Ovechkin passed Michal Pivonka to gain sole possession of third place on the team's career points chart. Only Peter Bondra (825) and Mike Gartner (789) have more points in a Washington uniform than Ovechkin, now in his sixth NHL season.

Well, I have to give it up for Boudreau and GMGM for training and putting together a roster like that, respectively. So even with players like Green, Backstrom, Varly, and Neuvirth, who are off because of injury, the team still functions well.
That - and I believe that Ovie and other players are gearing up for the playoffs. Thus, loads of heart and passion when they play.
So hopefully this trends continues upward through till June. I'll be playing the 'lucky' song every game day.
I dunno why you are so quick to throw nicky under the buss, just like everyone says holtby is #1 goalie. I mean let's give credit where it is due...Ovie caused the turnover, passed it MarJo any center (Arnott, Perreault, Laich, Steckel, Gordon, Fleischmann and even Backstrom) could've passed it back to Ovie, back to center and back to ovie for the goal. So other then that MarJo wasn't sending needle-threading passes to ovie like backstrom so often does, MarJo wasn't protecting the puck drawing the D and slipping it to Ovie like backstrom so often does, and MarJo wasn't getting off a one-timer from a nice Ovie pass like Backstrom so often does.
Holtby has had an amazing 2 past games, but to say he is our #1 guy behind Varly and Neuvy is just as jump-the-gun as saying MarJo is #1 center over Backstrom. can MarJo play #1 center? (of course), does he play well with Ovie? (most certainly) is he #1 center over Backstrom (no f-in way)
Notes from tonight
Ovechkin 600 career points 3rd all time in Caps franchise history (I believe he is two goals shy of 300
Arnott 900 career points
Wideman 200 Career points
Strum First point in a Caps uniform
Holtby 1st NHL shutout
The Caps and the NHL couldn't have scripted a better game.
I agree with Marge. Nicky is a proven 1C; Marjo is not. Luckily, he is good enough and has a skill set similar to Nicky's to fill in on the top line, but I've never heard Marjo described as 1C material. His highest projection is 2C.
Just because Nicky is having an off year (like many players on the team) doesn't mean there is a loss of respect. Frustration can be as much of a problem as physical ailments. Besides, like many on the team (including Ovie) Nicky looked like his play was improving. A bit of rest will probably be good for him since he has the reputation of playing through more injuries than he lets other people know about.
I don't know what's happened to this team, but they should bottle it and stash it away for the playoffs. For the first time in a very long time, I'm really feeling good about their chances to go far in the postseason. I'm hoping, got my fingers and toes crossed, that all the adversity they faced, with the 8 game losing streak, the injuries, etc. have strengthened their resolve and will to win. It just might be that they are coming together as a team, and peaking at the right time, at least that's what I hope for them.
