Semyon Varlamov is considering return to KHL
According to Sovetsky Sport (3/25/2011) Semyon Varlamov is considering return to KHL. His contract ends this summer and he gave a 'go ahead' to his Russian agent Vyacheslav Mahrensky.
"I was talking on the phone with Semyon yesterday and he said, "Let's try to consider the proposals of the Russian clubs in the offseason," said Vyacheslav Mahrensky to SovSport correspondent Sergey Begishev.
SB: But first of all you would probably look at the NHL offers?
VM: That's true. My partner Paul Theofanous is working on it now. But if the offers won't satisfy us it's not ruled out that Semyon will come back to Russia.

Maybe he is just exploring all of his options. On the business side, it makes sense. Of course, doing that is also common practice, just to put pressure on the player's current team to offer more.

wow and people are arguing over who should be the #1 goalie, clearly after these statements Varly should be placed farther from the mind. if he's focusing on how much money he can get over, showing how much he wants to be here then fuck him. over the summer is when you start the buisness side of things, not when your team is trying to decide who to go with in the playoffs. i never liked him over Neuvy anyways and he's too injury riddled to even be considered our #1, i hope he goes back to russia so Neuvy and Holtby can just battle it out instead of this 3 goalie battle we have going on. Neuvy #1 Holtby #2 period. Varly...go pull a muscle
Hey Marge, I think it's Varly's agent who is spending significant time focusing on the money and the business side. An agent has to talk to his client about what he's open to. Then, the agent takes it from there.
Unless Varly's durability improves, the Caps may not be so interested in keeping him around anyway.
Could be Varly feels he's the third wheel in the Caps' goalie rotation. I can't blame him if he and/or his agent is exploring his options with the KHL to gain leverage in negotiations. IMO he has to do what he thinks is best so I won't be too harsh about what his motive or decision will be.
Neuvy should be the starting goalie in the playoffs. his record proves the point. if bb dosen't name kiss him goodbye and if varley goes back to mother russia that leaves Holtby. Which may not be a bad thing.But I would like to see Neuvy named to start the playoff backed by Holtby.Varley hasen't proven himself this year. let him sit. Also wideman over Greene in the playoffs until Green shows he knows how to step it up in the playoffs instead of disappearing as he has in the last two years.
