Coach Bill will lead team Russia
Zinetulla "Bill" Bilyaletdinov has been officially appointed as the head coach of Russian national hockey team. According to life.ru he will be paid $28 mil for the next 2.6 years till Sochi-2014 Olympics. XXII Olympic Winter Games will be held from February 7 to February 23rd with 962 days left.
So starting today he will receive about $11 mil a year, and that is tax free.
Here's Coach Bill playing in 1979 Challenge Cup vs. Canada. Really good hit on a Canadian player starting at 0:07.

YEAAAAHHH COACH BILL!!!!!!!
I'm so happy with this, he's such a good coach. Bykov can go suck a lemon!
Looking forward to N. Americans pronouncing his name! lol
How good is "Bill" as a coach?
According to Wikipedia:
He won the Russian Championship in season 2005-06 and consequtive European Champions Cup-2007, as well as the history's first KHL Gagarin Cup as a head coach for Ak Bars Kazan.
Not bad, but I still would have preferred Tikhonov over him.
I guess Tikhonov is too old for this now.
I saw a Russian interview where Ilya Kovalchuk was saying he could get along with coach Bill and play for the national team (in the past he said he wouldn't play for coach Bill again).
Kovy also had something to say about Ovie:
- Alexander Ovechkin recently gave an interview to "Soviet sport" in which he said that the Russian team had not studied the opponent. So we have, for example, most lame ...
Kovalchuk:
- I do not agree with Sasha. How can I study weaknesses of competitors, if you come to a tournament and play with the sheet? Coaches trust you, let out on the ice. And everything is in your hands.
We play most of their clubs. This component is - pure improvisation. And the fact that he was limping on our World Cup - not the fault of Bykov and Zakharkin. It's players could not find the keys to someone else's defense, where a cheat. In general, I would not wave his fists after the fight. Bratislava in the past.

The world cup is every year so of course they are not going to be able to study each of their opponents in that tournament, but the Olympics is every four years! In all that time both the coaches and players can study their rivals.
Kovy prefers Bykov instead of Bill so it’s obvious that he is going to defend the coach even if the fans hate him.
Kovalchuk seems to display what is wrong with the Russian mindset.
Knowing your own players and knowing the preferences of your opponents is important whether you play through out the season or once a year. Being as prepared as possible for a team you rarely see is a strong step toward winning when you don't have the luxury of a courtship.
Having talented players doing their thing isn't enough.
Wow. Coach Bill makes more than Ovie does! This is the first time I heard of a case where a coach makes more than a player. And tax free too. The old cliche saying is true, nice work if you can get it. And Coach Bill got it. :)
