It took 8 hours to film The Spy commercial and a bit more for...
Wow, imagine now how much time was spent on Slapshot movie. No wonder Hanson brothers wanted to quit during the making of the movie.
Varly just gave an interview to Pavel Lysenkov of Sovetsky Sport and here's what he said when Pavel told him that 'Alexander Ovechkin The Spy' has won Bronse Lion trophy at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity:
Wow, I hear it for the first time! That's nice. I remember how we flew on a private airplane that was sent to pick us up, to the state of Connecticut. The commercial was filmed for eight hours. Sanya had a lot of work to do. As for me, with my five seconds of fame, it was not very hard.
Sanya, Sasha, Shura, Shurik are short for Alexander in Russian.
In other news it was confirmed by Capitals Insider that everything posted in this blog is 'Truth, The Whole Truth And Nothing But The Truth.' And it took more than 8 hours. :-) This is what you live for... Ahahahahaha (do I sound like @ovi8?)
Actually Tarik El-Bashir called Ovechkin's IMG agent David Abrutyn (Gawd, I miss Tarik) and he confirmed that:
- Ovechkin has decided to make a change and won't be renewing his endorsement deal with equipment manufacturer CCM, which expires at the end of the month. (Read our post here.)
- Ovechkin is now endorsing Canadian candy bar Mr. Big.(Read our post here.)
- Concerns that Ovechkin had enlarged tummy were greatly exaggerated. Seems like David is following our blog (Wow!) (Read our post here.)
“Having seen it, his posture wasn't great. The impact of the video probably was a little awkward. But as photographs showed two days later, as well as the ones from before that when he was with [John Carlson] on the 4th of July, it was much ado about nothing. ”
Awesome! What else can you say...

TJ, I read that TEB post on the WP website earlier and was thinking the same thing, you were right about everything.
Are you going to translate the rest of the Varly interview? I was reading it on google translate and it's a little confusing like usual.
I was surprised that Varly said he hasn't talked to Ovie since the trade and hasn't discussed it with anyone (his teammates I think he meant).
TJ, you're always right about everything! :)
Now that Ovie has severed ties with CCM, what will happen to his streetwear clothing line? I wonder if another company--and Ovie--will want to include it as part of any new endorsement deal or if it will be discontinued.
TJ, you're always two steps ahead! Keep it up, I LOVE this blog!!!
Thank you, my dear readers, obviously it was nice... Kinda like what Ovi said, "Work hard and anything can happen". Not much happened, of course, but to be the first was satisfying...
@BobbyG,
I am glad that Nate has cleared on one thing, who'll get the bowling bag...
@AB,
Varly is gone and I don't feel like translating entire interview.
Pavel asked the following, "You told before that Ovechkin didn't know your phone number. That's why you didn't discuss you leaving Washington. So for a month you didn't call each other?"
Varly: "No, and didn't talk about it with anyone"
didn't discuss it with anyone
Thanks for the additional translating TJ. Noted that you're not interested in Varly now, I won't ask for more translations on him. What he said here about the commercial and Ovie working hard for eight hours is like what he said at the end of his Avs press conference when a reporter asked him about the commercial.
It seems like IMG should do a little more to get a positive image or message out there about Ovie working out and being in shape instead of blowing it off like they did.
Here's Varly in an interview yesterday at his goalie class in Samara about filming the commercial:
To dream of a movie, had to go from Washington to Connecticut. The shooting lasted eight hours. And all this for a 30-second spot! However, I got a bit part. The director was shooting my face, which was shot just 5 seconds. It took 15 minutes. But Ovechkin had to sweat, his role was the main! I can say that this video won third place at Cannes, we got a bronze branch. So it was filmed in the video is not in vain!
