Ovechkin used his old equipment, a.k.a CCM

According to Alexander Zhukov, President of Russian Olympic committee, the charity game raised aobut 15 mil rubles or $520,000 (15 Russian rubles = 0.5201 US dollars). The check presented at the game was a bit outdated, it showed 13,000,000.00, I guess, by the time it was made.

You can see Ovi is using CCM stick. Even if he'd sign with Bauer, they wouldn't be able to make custom sticks for him that fast.

Check Russian license plate on Ovi's Brabus

Thanks to Emily and BobbyG for the links, much appreciated.

what gear is Ovi using? Still wearing the CCM helmet and skates? gloves? stick?

Is Semin there?

I'd like to know what gear Ovie is using too. I've been going back and forth between the game and my WORK and I still don't see yellow laces on his skates.

Another tie, but this time in regulation. Nobody had to pull strings or call in favors for an extra period. :)

Ha, Ovie ended up with 4 goals! IMO he's just getting warmed up for the new season. I hope he also didn't break his nose and need stitches like the last time this happened LOL.

I wonder if Ovie went straight from the postgame interviews and photo ops directly to the airport to fly to DC. Will Ghera be with him or join him later? I wish he had tweeted some pics of her while he was at his dacha.

Semin was absent. When Bradley was asked why, Matt said, "He doesn't care" :-)

I was able to watch the full game and I must say Oviedo certainly looked fit he was everywhere!!!! This is in a game for fun and he was dangling and skating unbelievably! Wow I can't wait to see him in a serious game

The news about Semin participating was also released at the same time as the incorrect news about Varly and Bryzgalov. Obviously that wasn't the best source. Maybe it was more of a list of who they hoped for instead of confirmed. I did read a google translate of Kovy saying he wanted Varly and Bryzgalov but he waited too long to ask them, they were already in the US. Then Datsyuk had to take his daughter to start school.

Thanks for all the updates on the game everyone! I wanted to watch but of course I couldn't at work.

I didn't get to watch the game because I had to go register my brother at his school. They wouldn't take his birth certificate because it was Russian. He had citizenship papers though, so it shouldn't be problem, right? Idiots, I swear haha1

Anyway, I heard Ovi embarrassed the other team with his goals. I'm glad. Unfortunate Semin wasn't there, but he had pretty good team. I heard Malkin took a blind child and showed him the net and everything. That is cool.

BobbyG said...

@Yulina: Chesnokov tweeted that after the game, Malkin walked a blind child up to the net and let him touch it, the stick, the puck, and explained everything to him. This is another reason why I like Geno so much.

And yes, some people are whining about Ovie scoring 4 goals as if his only motive was to embarrass the other team. I mean really, he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. He's playing hockey to WIN. How else is he going to play? I swear some of his critics should just go find someone and something else to complain about.

Yulina said...

@BobbyG: I didn't mean that it was bad thing! I mean like a shot of his was apparently really good shot.

I really like Malkin. I watched him in Magnitogorsk a few times and he was always really good player, fun to watch. He's also very nice man, I've heard from many people. This just shows as well.

Hear that, RUSSIANS ARE NICE PEOPLE! hahah! It's good they raised so much because really, anything is good but 13 million is a nice amount.

BobbyG said...

@Yulina: let me clarify, I know you didn't think it was a bad thing for Ovie to score 4 goals. Some posters on other sites are complaining because they say it shows Ovie not being "charitable" in a charity game. I feel like talling them, go away I'm not buying what you're selling.

Yulina said...

@BobbyG: We have same minds! Of course he's going to try and play as well as he can!

BobbyG said...

@Yulina: yes, we have like minds, which is why we can share Ovie LOL. Maybe he'll take us for a ride in his Brabus, separately of course, so we can each have our own special memories. :)

Ovi looks scruffy in one of those photos.

The yellow media always finds something to talk about.
I'm glad Ovie showed his hunger for victory by scoring four goals even if it was only a charitable game. I don't see anything wrong with that so the media can go to hell hahaha!XD

Yulina said...

@BobbyG: I like the idea of sharing. Sharing is caring, yes? And caring is what makes the world go round! haha!

Brabus is nice, but I'd probably go for a ride in the Ovimobile. :)

@Devi: I agree with you there. I hate the media sometimes. Right now is one of them.

BobbyG said...

@Yulina: the Brabus is for riding around Moscow, maybe next time. We'll share him in the Ovimobile once he arrives in DC...TODAY!

People donated money to watch the stars play. I would further argue that they paid to watch ovi score goals. Whoever its worried about the goalies being embarrassed is focusing on the one person embarrassed rather than the entire arena entertained. Maybe this is a cultural backlash from the media, to be more concerned for the one goalie? I would definitely not know...

That first picture of Ovi wearing an Easton helmet is from last years game. Fact.
