Seeking Permanence in an Impermanent World

The Official blog for the Detroit Red Wings held a dream team contest. Alex Ovechkin, not Red Wings Pavel Datsyuk, Penguins Sidney Crosby or Lighting Steven Stamkos, was present in about all 300 Dream Teams submitted!
When we opened up our ‘Dream Team’ concept last week, we knew our fans would come up with talent-laden rosters that would compete for Lord Stanley’s Cup .Read more...
Still, your support was overwhelming.
Some ‘300 Dream Teams’ have been narrowed down a select few, with brownie points given to taking a unique approach. We had a team based around a favorite player, a club of All-European players, award winners, 50-point scorers and more.
The one constant: Alex Ovechkin
You know, there were recent articles like "8 Reasons Why Alexander Ovechkin Is the Greatest Hockey Player in the World" or "10 hardest-hitting players of all-time" where Ovechkin was in the list. Not that I disagree with them, not at all, it's just both articles were written by a single writer, and everyone deserves their own opinion. But when Alex Ovechkin is chosen by 300 hockey fans/experts outside Washington Capitals fans area, that is impressive!

It's reassuring to know that fans of different teams and experts outside DC can be objective when evaluating talent for a Dream Team. Ovie might get booed on the road, but these same fans would give their left nut to have him skating for them not against them.
IMO Ovie has another new title, the one constant in a topsy-turvy world. He is perfection in an imperfect world. GO GREAT 8!
Bobby G I love that comment perfection in an imperfect world.
Thanks Lissa S.
Another thing that impresses me about the new and improved Ovie this offseason is he's taking steps to be a better Captain. I read Tarik El-Bashir's column in today's Capitals Insider where Caps Coach Bruce Boudreau says he met with Ovie when he was in DC last month:
“He was really receptive to everything,” the Capitals coach said of his star left wing. “He asked, 'What do I have to do? What do you want me to do?' He threw out some ideas. ”
...the two talked about the need for Ovechkin to take his role as team captain “a step further” as well as the importance of establishing “a more serious tone” in the dressing room from the first day of training camp.
“The whole leadership role is taking on a different [meaning] to him now,” Boudreau said...
“He's going to take it a step further. That's maturity. It's not anything more than that.”
Tarik goes on to say:
Since getting the ‘C’ in January of 2010, Ovechkin has definitely been of the lead-by-example variety. To me, it sounds like Boudreau implored him to be more assertive and vocal — and less concerned about hurting feelings.
There have also been rumblings that [Ovie] intends to return from Russia earlier than usual, presumably to give himself more time to get settled in Arlington and begin focusing on camp.
haha "give their left nut" love it! some people wish they had a nut to give *ahem* crosby.... maybe that's why he punches people in the balls because if he can't have them no one can!
Say what you must, but with Crosby's style of play if you put him on line with Ovi for a season it'd be explosive. They are different so it would compliment each other.
This is awesome! I love that Ovi is recognized and respected outside DC. 300/300 is pretty darn good!
