Why Alexander Ovechkin will endorse Bauer?
Here's 2011 Stanley Cup Finals usage of Bauer equipment by both Boston and Vancouver players:
- Skates - 84%
- Gloves - 61%
- Helmet - 61%
- Pants - 56%
- Stick - 53%
Bauer hockey blog:
The next highest skate brand in the finals is 11 percent, while the next highest stick brand is only 25 percent.
2011 All-Star Stats:
Of the 36 NHL All-Stars:
- 92% use Bauer skate blades (#1)
- 75% use Bauer skates (#1)
- 56% use Bauer helmets (#1)
- 53% use Bauer gloves (#1)
- 50% use Bauer pants (#1)
- 42% use Bauer sticks (#1
Ovi using CCM sticks at All-Star has altered the stats. :-)
Funny thing is, he broke his CCM stick at the Hardest Shot competition and borrowed Kris Letang's Easton. When he was asked if he liked Letang's stick, he replied:
Not really. It was longer and softer.
Not that CCM is already behind Bauer, but now CCM is going to lose big time, at least in a short term, for not signing Ovechkin.

I've always prefer Bauer, like I said in other post. Sticks last longer and it's about the same price as CCM, some Bauer is even cheaper. For road hockey, I have same three Bauer sticks for two years and still strong! Though I only use wood for street hockey. I actually prefer wooden sticks because of the weight and feel of them, plus they're usually cheaper.
I would like to see Ovi using Bauer, I think it might help his game not having to replace every two shifts. He was having problem with skates too, wasn't he? not that CCM is bad company, but for players like Ovechkin I believe he is too strong for those sticks, he likes to lean into them and shoot with power and obviously too much after a couple really good shots.
His main concern was CCM sticks, but CCM skates he took to Vancouver, they broke. Don't remember, blade went off or something. He had mad lamb painted on them.
@partions that's what I thought but I couldn't remember. I haven't tried U+ Crazy Light skates, but I tried a different U+ and I still like Vapor better. I'm not as powerful a skater as Ovi but they are a really light skate and very comfortable so he should probably like them.
Has he signed with Bauer for sure?
