Update:
"He’s been trying his hardest to try to break a [new Bauer] stick and so far they seem to be indestructible and that makes us all smile."
~Ted Leonsis
From the Bauer Blog, Sept. 6, 2011:

"I am very excited to play with Bauer. This is a great step forward for me as a player," Ovechkin said. "I'm also very pleased to work with Bauer to give back to kids in Washington and Russia because that is very important to me and my family."
Ovechkin will be featured in Bauer Hockey's global advertising efforts, including the soon-to-be unveiled Bauer Vapor APX stick campaign. In addition, as an icon in his hometown of Moscow, Ovechkin will play a key role in Bauer Hockey's overall growth strategy in the expanding Russian and Eastern European markets.

"Alex is obviously one of the greatest players to ever play the game and has an unparalleled passion, commitment and desire to win," said Kevin Davis, President and Chief Executive Office, Bauer Hockey. "There are very few athletes in any sport that have his ability to influence players throughout the world and he will be an instrumental partner for us as we look to expand our business in key emerging markets."
In addition to his significant marketing presence, Ovechkin will also work closely with Bauer's product development team to provide insight and feedback into future product direction.

As I posted when Fat-gate first emerged, Ovie thought all the talk was humorous and laughed about it.
Ovie: "I have a perfect body right now." LOL :)
Lift the shirt Ovie, school is back in session, so it's time for SHOW and tell.
His Twitter avatar is now the Bauer photo. He's such a good little promoter.
Money was also donated for charity during the Bauer announcement.
@TJ, I have the Ovechkin Circle photos you requested. I will email them to you as soon as I get a new AV cord (old one doesn't fit new camera, typical!).
On the Bauer site there's a slideshow of Ovie wearing the company's gear plus action shots of him in it. I wonder where and when the photoshoot took place.
Like I say before, I think it's a great move for him. Just a change in brand can change mentally thinking. The interview is making me look forward to the season especially. He seems very prepared to go on every level.
My friend in Krasnoyarsk said he hasn't seen Semin around. Anyone know if he's in Washington or seen him practising? He could just not be seeing him, but he was wondering, as am I.
@Yulina It was in the Russian press that Semin was coming back to DC on Sept 8. I haven't seen any recent updates on him.
This article by Corey Masisak on NHL.com is about how Ovie dealt with all the talk about his weight and conditioning. According to Ovie, "It's never happened to me when people said I'm in bad shape."
The author, however, disagrees:
It actually wasn't the first time Ovechkin's physical conditioning has been questioned. He has shown up for training camp in great shape in years past, but he wasn't when the Capitals convened for the 2010-11 season.
Ovechkin had decided after the 2009-10 campaign to switch personal trainers and took a different tact when it came to preparing for the season. He was noticeably out of breath at the end of the first practice last season -- something that was out of character for a guy who typically logs heavy minutes and amazes other players and coaches with his ability to recover and compete at a high intensity level.

I agree with Yulina, perhaps a new start with a new brand of equipment can help clear Ovie's head and give him more confidence in his game the way he knows how to play it. IMO Ovie wants to put all his mistakes from last year behind him and move forward.
Ovi to Malamud about anti-Semin-tism:
- Опять же, эту тему мы затронем чуть попозже. Меня попросили об этом пока ничего не говорить.
We'll talk on this subject later. I was asked not to talk about it for now.
Ovie was asked not to talk about anti-Semin-tism but will talk about this subject later? Maybe Ovie's planning a face-to-face "discussion" with Matt Bradley when the Caps play the Florida Panthers for the first time on 10/18.
I also wonder if Ovie has encountered Dave Steckel at Kettler lately?
I doubt Ovi will go after Bradley. For all the times Bradley had Ovi's back, I bet Ovi has Bradley's too. Everything shows they get along well.
People don't get Semin. Ovi knows that.
Are you kidding me? Bradley is one of Ovi's best friends, this will never happen.
I never said or meant to suggest that Ovie will fight Bradley. Where did you get that crazy idea? I only meant to suggest it's possible they might have a few words to say about it in passing, not necessarily to clear the air but maybe to have a good laugh about it. I should have been more clear in my previous post, but for God's sake don't put words in my mouth or make inferences about my intent. Do we really need any more drama? Give me some credit for having a brain and a heart. End of story.
