Life goes on, but friends and loved ones are remembered at NHL party in NY

NHL throws an invite-only party in New York on Fifth Avenue in midtown Manhattan with NHL stars and executives today...

By Dan Rosen and Adam Kimelman, Sept. 7, 2011, NHL.com:

The mood was light and somewhat jovial as the League and its stars officially kicked off the 2011 Player Media Tour and unofficially started the 2011-12 season.

However, it was all done in an attempt to mask the fresh and raw emotions still weighing heavily on all of the hockey people at the party, all of whom remained queasy by the fact that, thousands of miles away on another continent, authorities were still sifting through wreckage of a plane crash that wiped out many of their friends and former teammates.

The tragic crash in Central Russia of the plane carrying the KHL's Lokomotiv Yaroslavl hockey club was very much on the minds of everyone in the room.

"I know lots of guys there and I know the guy that is surviving (Alexander Galimov), and I hope he is going to be alive and good. It doesn't matter who you are, the most important thing is to be here in this world. Nobody can imagine that this is going to happen. I'm still in shock. It's scary in this world because you never know what can happen. This is not a national tragedy, it's an international tragedy."

~Alex Ovechkin

И сказал Господь: "Эй, ключари, отворите ворота в Сад!
Сегодня здесь, от зари до зари, в рай пропускать ребят.

And the Lord said, "Hey, doormen, open the heaven's gates!
I give my command, from dawn to dusk, let in these guys to paradise."

Сашка Галимов ты должен жить!держись!мы все с тобой!!молимся за тебя!

Ovie: "This is not a national tragedy, it's an international tragedy."

*Sigh*

Mercifully this day hss come to an end. I know all the cliche phrases about moving on and closure, but speaking for myself, I know it's going to be difficult.

There's some Russian text in the initial TJ post that Google translates:

And the Lord said:
- Hey, Senior,
Open the gates to the Garden!
I give the command
From dawn to dusk
In paradise miss landing

I get the jist but something still seems a bit off. Maybe there's a better translation?

The Russian text has changed, and the new text Google translates:

And the Lord said, 'Hey, Senior, you will open the gates to the Garden!

Here today, from dawn to dusk in Paradise miss the guys.

Here today, from dawn to dusk in Paradise miss the guys.

Thanks for new Russian TJ, this is a lot more understandable. How sad and yet how appropriate.

Maybe I should wait until you finish posting and translating TJ.

Thanks for more new Russian with the accompanying translation.

I think it's time for hopefully a good night's sleep. It's been a long day.

Such a sad event.

TJ, both of your nhl.com links above go to the same article. I think you meant to link this article.

I hope the Caps do something in memory of these players on Opening Night. This is so devastating!!!! It could have been any team. Everybody PLEASE pray for Galimov and their families! Alex must and will live!!!!

@AB, Thanks, I've corrected that. Also would like to thank our field reporter Emily and BobbyG for the links.

In other news Galimov was airlifted from Yaroslavl to Moscow and his condition is stable. That's already a miracle...

Our thoughts and prayers with you, Alexander Galimov.
