Not yet! will be posted shortly! Just announced company wide. Source is a brand manager on site in beaverton.

Is that what Ovi will announce on Sept. 6 besides running for President?

Update from Tarik El-Bashir:
“I can confirm that Alex has signed a long-term global partnership with Nike,” Abrutyn said. “Alex is going to be supporting all of the products that Nike makes — apparel, footwear, performance apparel, casual wear, accessories and other elements of the Nike family of products. So he will be wearing their performance product when he’s playing and practicing, when he’s training and in his lifestyle.”

Tarik says:
It’s believed that [September 6] announcement is not team related, however. Just speculating here, but Ovechkin might reveal the company that will supply his sticks, skates and equipment beginning next season.

Is this separate from a Nike Bauer deal, or could it be same? Either way, good for him.

Well, he did say he had business to do when he got back...

I remembered what Steph said about Ovie's statement of one of the reasons he's returning to the US early. But if the business aspect, the Nike deal, is done, what's the point of a big announcement on September 6? Now I'm thinking it's for a personal reason, a new charity or more involvement in one he already supports. Or maybe what Marge said about being engaged, which would be very quick, and the business he's talking about is making wedding arrangements. :)

Alex Ovechkin has signed a multi year deal with Nike, his IMG agent David Abrutyn has confirmed to me.

I wonder if this is his Tuesday announcement?

Posted too soon. More from TEB:

From what I'm hearing, Ovi's Nike deal is NOT what is being announced next week. I suspect that's an endorsement deal of some sort, too.

Something bigger than a Nike deal?

Thanks AB.

Maybe the special announcement is about the Nike deal. Not that he's signing with Nike because that's already out of the bag, but how it relates to his focus and commitment to playing hockey.

Maybe Ovie wants to say something personally about why he chose Nike, and use that opportunity to address his offseason training and commitment to winning the Stanley Cup. He also might want to take advantage of a captive media audience to show off how fit he is and directly confront the rumors about his offseason training. :)

Oops, I also posted too soon to AB.

Well, now the plot thickens as to what's going to happen September 6.

Another endorsement deal, even bigger than Nike? Now the pendulum is swinging back toward an engagement LOL.

He is going to become a father!
I guessed that he was going to sign a new contract with a big sport company like Nike or Adidas so yeah... this time I'm going to guess that he is going to be a father.

It's too quick to get marry and to soon to get engaged. So, what's the fastest thing for a man to create in just a day? A BABY!

I don't think he will give up the C. He is not like that; he doesn't give up just like that! And I don't think he is going to have a big conference just to talk about his new contract or about a single thing. I think he is going to point out a lot of subjects.

@Devi: I think he would be a good dad. If that's what he's going to say, so be it.

It's not really worth speculation, he'll say what he's going to say.

Alex Ovechkin told us yest he was back. He's on the ice this am, sporting a Bauer stick, pants and helmet.

-There you go, he's using Bauer already.

and he's been back in town less than 24 hours and already practicing. Love it :-)

Yes it's great Ovie is already on the ice practicing with his boys, as he calls them. And as for his special announcement, I already thought about what Devi said, and what he would want to announce here in the US and not in Russia before he left. But I decided to take Yulina's suggestion to halt the speculation, and just wait to hear what Ovie says himself.

From everything I have seen of Ovi, I can't imagine he would hold a press conference to announce something about his personal life, whether it be getting married or having a baby. My guess is he'll announce he's going with Bauer. We'll see.

This isn't Nike's first major hockey endorsement. They had Sundin, Fleury, Fedorov, Cammi Granato, and even Mario Lemieux under contract.

Bottom line with this deal is that it's less about the US market for Nike and more for the Russian & Eastern European markets. Ovechkin's a hero over there and Russia is an emerging market with sales growth. Remember, too, that the Olympic Winter Games are in Sochi in 2014 and hockey will play a dominant role during the games.

Ovechkin is also signing with Bauer for his equipment. Nike sold Bauer a few years ago, but many of the people who worked for Nike/Bauer at the time went to work for Bauer. They're smart enough to realize that an Ovechkin/Nike endorsement is a win-win for them, especially if they can get Ovechkin to wear Bauer gear in any Nike ads. (Bauer FB page shows skates with yellow laces.)
