Vintage Ovechkin? He's almost there!
Sens 1, Caps 2.
Two Swedes night: Backstrom (awesome set up by Semin) and Johansson (GWG) both scored.
HammerLick, Vokoun, Backie and Marcus
Ovi's stats:
-1, total 18:10, 19 shifts, average 00:57, PP 02:21, even 15:49, 7 shots on goal, 3 missed, 3 hits, 3 takeaways
Again, check average shift, 57 seconds! 7 shots on goal, the closest Caps player is Backstrom with just 3 shots on goal. Brouwer and Knuble had 4 hits each, one more than Ovi! Ovi ended with -1 because he was on the ice in the first period when Sens scored. But in the third Ovi started to heat up, with about 3 minutes left in regulation he did an awesome curl and drag entering Sens zone from the right. If he would score, it could be a highlight reel goal for sure. Good omens all over the place! No points, but like we said, vintage Ovechkin is coming!
Update from our field reporter BobbyG:
My overall impression watching and observing the game: even from the opening warm-ups, Ovie was very animated, lively, and determined. During breaks in the action during the game, and while resting on the bench between shifts, I saw Ovie talking to his teammates, probably discussing strategy. I definitely got the vibe that he is very serious about his Captain's role and leadership of the team. He looked very focused and intense, not stressed, just very engaged in all aspects of the game. He wants to win, that's obvious, and also senses this year is the time, if not now, then when? If it's pressure, he now seems ready to face it head on.
Here's a bonus video of Johansson (not Scarlet, Marcus one :-):

Ovie demonstrated leadership all over the place. He's getting his chances, and IMO is very close to busting loose. The goals and points will come eventually; right now I'm mostly impressed with how he's LEADING the team. I could see it, I could sense it in the stands. He has a commanding presence on the ice, and he's using it as Captain to encourage and motivate his teammates to play well and score. Go Ovie!
