What a day, Ovechkin's flying to Moscow

 Katie Carrera

announce that Alex Ovechkin will be returning to Moscow to be with his family after the death of a close relative in Moscow.

Prayers to your family and safe travel, Ovi...

By Lindsay Applebaum, Capitals Insider:
Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is flying home to be with his family in Moscow after the death of his uncle.

The team did not say how long Ovechkin will be back in Russia but he is expected to return for Saturday’s season opener against the Hurricanes at Verizon Center, according to a team spokesman.

This also means that unveiling of Great Eight's wax figure, scheduled for October 4th, will have to be postponed...

 Madame Tussauds DC

Due to the unfortunate passing of a family member, our unveiling event with Alex Ovechkin has been cancelled and will be re-scheduled.

U newer know when and how.......

Update:

 Tarik El-Bashir
8 will practice tomorrow before catching flight to Moscow. His father's brother has passed. As you know, the Ovechkins are very tight.
Thanks, Tarik, you're always on top of the things... So it's Uncle Misha's brother...

"It is absolutely certain that we will die, and it is uncertain when or how we will die."
~Sogyal Rinpoche

Update from CI's Tarik El-Bashir:
“He’s that kind of guy. And we promote it. It’s family first. When something is wrong, you’ve got to take care of your family. [GM George McPhee] and I have said, ‘As long as it takes. You come back when you’re ready.’ We think he’s going to be back on Friday.

That’s a lot of strain,” Boudreau said of the cross-Atlantic flight.

Oh wow, I'm so sad to hear this news. I wonder which family member it is that passed away? Ovie is so about family, it's got to be affecting him deeply. I send all my prayers and good wishes to him at this most difficult time.

Sorry I missed it, it's Ovie's uncle. Is he his mother's brother or father's brother? Either way it's a huge blow. So sad.

I wondered why he had no energy in his game Sunday. He was so distraught on the ice like his mind was somewhere else. I wonder if he knew then.

God Bless the Ovechkin Family!

@Anonymous,

Ovie looked fine on Sunday. The whole team looked disinterested in the 2nd period.

He didn't find out until Monday.
