Ovechkin talks to media after practice, he looks so sad, he is hell now, no matter what he'd say...

Phase 10 of "The Life Cycle of An NHL Coach." Dead Man Walking:

The players don’t listen because they don’t have to—and the coaches don’t even try anymore because they know the players aren’t listening. At this point, it’s only a matter of time.

GRRR The media and ppl make me so angry everyone comes down on him like a ton of bricks but they all forget that he just had a death in the family and lost a lot of friends in the lokomotiv accident i dont think his mind is 100% on hockey right now which is understandable plus all the talk about his weight before the season started he needs a break hes only human

I didn't believe everything was OK with Ovie a few days ago when he forced a smile and said it was good to be him. Now in this video he doesn't even bother to force a smile. I see black holes in his eyes where the sun once shone as in the Pink Floyd reference.

I really really hope Ovie's funk has nothing to do with his Dad's health or other personal family issues. I hope it's just frustration and he somehow learns to shake it off, either on his own or with some help from someone like a sports psychologist as I already suggested.

As a fan it's really sad for me to see and hear Ovie so down. Maybe some games in front of the home crowd this week will fix things. Maybe as O suggested Ovie should go to the net more, get more physical, and then he and the team will snap out of it. I hope so.

BobbyG, how is Ovi's dad's health? Is there a problem in that regard?

@Diane: I read on this blog a while ago that Ovie's Dad had heart problems last year, likely related to smoking. IIRC Mr. Ovechkin had a procedure done last December. With recent comments like Ovie taking him to an appointment earlier this month, and Ovie's Dad not being seen at practice for 2 weeks, it's been suggested maybe Ovie is distracted by his Dad's health.

I agree about the media and such. He just seems like a kid that needs to be reassured that everything will get better. Over the years it seems like the spark has been slowly dying out. Almost like he is slowly being smothered. I think I posted it once before that at one time hockey was a passion for him and now it has become a job. Until he and the other players can find that joy and passion again we might be in for a long ride. With so much bad media attention and negative comments out there it might be really hard to over come this. I've even stopped reading comments on some sites because I can't stand to see such negativity.

Players are human beings just like you and me. I don't have a good day every and I don't expect them to either. I don't care if they do make a ton more money than me. It's just the way it is. I wish there was a way to convey to them that there are people out there that still beleive and wish the best for them.

Also @BobbyG Thanks for the update from my last post about going to practices. I only live about 1 1/2 from DC so it's not too bad for me to go down for a day. I'm sure when I head down I will have a great day. I just need to rope someone into going with me.

@BoobyG,

The other benefit of crashing the net more is it is a great way for working out frustration. ;)

I think he'd be really good at crashing the net and it would be a great skill for him to develop to carry him through his later career.

Sorry for the humorous typo, BobbyG.

The Caps will never win the cup with Ovi as a captain. He's a lousy leader.

God, the Pens fans have come out of the woodwork again.

BobbyG, I too wondered about Ovi's dad. I remember Ovi needing to take him to the doctor's. Didn't know about his heart problem from last season.

But you would think that if it were Ovi's dad's health, that BB would be a little more understanding instead of throwing Ovi under the bus with his snide comments to the media.

So unless Ovi isn't telling anyone, I don't think that's it, athough it's very interesting to hear that his dad hasn't been at practice.

BTW, doesn't it look like Ovi got rid of the unibrow?

@Lissa: I hope you can get someone to go to DC with you. It's worth the trip, and not just for Ovie and the Caps!
I hear you about the negativity at other sites. It's so depressing I don't get around much anymore.

@O: LOL at BoobyG! It's OK, I've had days like that too. :)
You are exactly right about the benefits for Ovie going to the net more, for working out frustration. You would think it would have already occurred to him that he should use his size and strength more to his advantage. Shouldn't Coach Boudreau be preaching this to him?

Ovie's dad does NOT have heart problems!!!!!!!!!!

@Anonymous,

Oh really? If you have information then contribute it. Ovi's dad had a procedure done last year so he is having some kind of health problem.
