I've seen games when Ovi was shut down, but he still had sparkles... Not tonight... There were bad days before, but not as bad as tonight. Not that he didn't try, he tried hard to make it work, but it was just one of the worst days in his career. Bruce tried him with any possible combinations to fire him up, with Brouwer, Semin, Knuble... Ovi even played a left wing on the 4th line, nothing worked... Boudreau did the right thing benching him at the end of the game, enough said... :-(
Ovi's stats:
1 assist, total ice time 17:51, 21 shifts, average shift 00:51, PP 03:14, even 14:37, 4 shots on goal, 2 attempts blocked, 3 missed, 1 hit, 1 blocked shot
Sounds like Ovi needs something going, like a new GF. Any volunteers? :-)
Backstrom ties it, Backstrom wins it!

I can see it and I can feel it, there is something going on between those two and it is not good.
"Sounds like Ovi needs something going, like a new GF." More like a new coach that will actually make things work for Ovi and the rest of the team.
It was nice to see the team being able to come back and win the game, but that could had been a disaster. This is the type of game you don't want to see too often. It's better to secure a victory from the very beginning than the last moment.
BTW, for moment I thought BB had just become Mike Milbury's new spoke person. If he is going to keep talking about Ovi's bad performances, then he better choose other words next time. Seriously, he needs to stop feeding the haters.
Jeeze! Ovi's still a human being. Sh*t happens to everybody.Last thing he needs is another female distraction going on. Get off his case. He'll be ok.
I wish everybody would leave Ovie alone!!! No one is perfect ALL THE TIME - he's only human.
As bad as yesterday may have been, it's not the worst Ovi day I've ever seen. Two years ago (coincidentally on Nov 1) was an even worse day. The Caps were playing Columbus. During one PP, Ovi made a mistake and Columbus ended up getting a short handed goal. Then, Ovi got in a scrum with several Columbus players, ended up in the penalty box, and then injured. Initially, I didn't know he was injured and noticed he hadn't taken a shift since getting out of the box. I had wondered if he had gotten benched and thought to myself, "Come on, the benching's gone on long enough this game." Then, we found out at intermission, he had been hurt. (And they lost the game in OT, after finally getting a third period lead than was blown with less than 2 minutes to go (and a pulled goalie.)
I figure the "benchgate" episode will blow over. Boudreau and Ovi will forgive one another. Even so, at least they played him during the Overtime period.
They have to do the symbiosis together to win the Cup. you can replace BB, but it's no guarantee to win the Cup
I'm not surprised at Ovi's game. He looked off during practice on Monday too. Strange after his good performances on the road trip.
I have to be objective about this. The s****y way Ovie was playing in this game, he deserved to be benched at the end of regulation when the Caps pulled the goalie to get the tying goal. Boudreau was absolutely correct to put the players on the ice that he felt would get the job done.
Playing time is earned, yes even for superstars like Ovie. Maybe sometime in the not so distant past Boudreau would have played Ovie because Ovie is Ovie. But this is a different season, things are being done differently. If Ovie wants more playing time, especially in crucial game situations, he has to earn it.
