Stars 5, Caps 2
Another horrible night for Alex Ovechkin. I don't think it has ever happened before, having two non-existent games when the season is that young... Ovi is fading and no one can do anything about it... except him...
Knuble, Ovi, Wideman talk to media after the loss to Dallas Stars
Ovi's stats:
-2, total ice time 18:22, 19 shifts, average 00:58, PP 03:35, even 14:47, 3 shots on goal, 1 attempt blocked, 1 missed, 3 hits, 1 giveaway
To be fair Backstrom and Carlson had -3...

Horrible game, disappointing and frustrating. Way too reminiscent of games from last season when the team as a whole didn't show up, didn't compete. They better re-group and re-focus ASAP before it becomes a festering bad habit.
I don't know what to make of what's up with Ovie. The reduced playing time is supposed to give him--and the other top line stars--fresh legs. Tonight it was just the opposite. It wasn't just Ovie, the team overall looked like it was sleepwalking, getting outworked and losing the 1-on-1 battles. Is it possible the reduced ice time is making some players lazy and ineffective instead of rejuvenated?
The Caps went 7-0 in their first 7 games, 2-4 in their last 6. Let's get the train back on the tracks, boys. I know I'm not alone when I say I don't want to see another 8-game losing streak again. :(
He definitely needs some new, uh, "inspiration".
Ovi needs to lighten up on the ice and on the bench. I think the voices from the past two years telling him what a captain is supposed to look like have suppressed his game-time energy. Having "fun" on ice and with the media benefited him and the team.
He probably also needs to learn some techniques (that work with his personality) for handling pressure and expectations (when things aren't going to plan).
the caps need a new coach. pure and simple.
I am a fan of BB, but it doesn't seem like his methods are effective anymore. As for ovie he doesn't seem to be the same player since becoming captain, he needs to just play
I don't like goalie's musical chair games. If your #1 had bad game, give him another chance in the next. Letting him ride the pine will kill his confidence. Now I have more understanding why Varlamov wanted out, even to KHL.
The Caps need a new coach.Ovechkin shouldn't be a captain. He should become regular player, relax and have fun again instead of focusing on captain crap He has enough pressure to worry about
I agree the Caps do need a new coach, I'm not worried about recent skid it's early in the season. But it's the same thing year after year, sure BB's numbers are phenomenal but seriously there's no question this team will make the playoffs but there's been 4straight years of the same exact thing, he never tries anything different come playoffs. The team gets panicked and so does he when we can't score and then it all goes to sh1t. Ovie is not the problem and he is a great Captain because he still shows up works hard everyday despite everyone that keeps criticizing him. He could sit and pout but he doesn't he comes to play and just because he's struggling doesn't mean he's any less of a Captain. I really do think a coaching change us in order and that doesn't mean promoting from within
