500th NHL game for Ovechkin
It was 500th NHL game for Ovechkin and Laich. Laich jokingly said that he'd score before Ovechkin in this game, turned out it was a game winner for Laich in overtime, Sens 2, Caps 3. And congrats to the new coaches Dale Hunter and Jim Johnson for their first win.
Ovi was on the ice for two Caps goals. First one was by Backstrom, as Craig Laughlin noted, it was possible because two Sens defencemen went to cover Ovi, that allowed Backsrom to fire the puck and score. Second goal by Brouwer was on excellent set up pass by Ovi.
Great Eight didn't score, but it was a good overall game for him.
Ovechkin's stats:
1 assist, +1, total ice time 20:55, 25 shifts, average 00:50, PP 04:44, even 16:11, 4 shots on goal, 3 attempts blocked, 2 missed, 2 hits, 1 giveaway, 2 blocked shots

I was actually very impressed with ovi's effort tonight. This was certainly to me his best game in a while and it looked like ovi of old a lot in the game. One thing i saw along with the announcers was his lack of confidence in some areas. For example, when on his breakaway (which was inches from a goal over the glove), ovi tried to deke out the goal instead of ripping it top shelf like in the past. His pass was unbelievable to Brouwer and im pretty confident about his play. I had the opportunity to talk to one of NHL's analysts online before the pittsburgh game and he said he is very confident that ovie's play will return to his high flying energetic style.
Baby steps. Ovie and the Caps are looking much better which is a very good sign. He's getting the scoring chances, so if his confidence grows he should start to put the puck in the net.
Ovechkin is trying to assist more and I think is working, just look how the defense was concentrating on him instead of covering the other guys on both goals.
BTW, have you guys read this ridiculous article?

Anonymous - what's that mean ... coward? ... no name? don't know how to use the internet? I can't seem to find a good definition that fits these sorts of comments that "anonymous" always seems to make on these Caps blogs...
The Steigerwald who wrote the article is the brother of the Pens announcer Paul Steigerwald. Since the announcer has absolutely no class, just like his partner Errey, it doesn't surprise me that his brother would write a hit piece like this.
Someone at Japers' showed how Malkin's production had gone down since the Olympics. Wonder why he didn't do an article about Malkin?
Effing $hitsburg... I know I shouldn't think like that, but now every time you say Pittsburgh, Pen's state and child sexual abuse comes to mind...ugh..even people from Pennsylvania don't want to have any connection to it...
