Love Varly!

Varly showed his true colors during his mud-slinging contract negotiations last summer. Bad way of doing business.
@BobbyG, I answered your question in one of the other posts.
@O, Varly went to dinner with Ovi, Semin, Orlov and Sergey Kocharov, a Caps team employee. None of them seem to have a problem with Varly, I would think that they know him best. The Caps team PR guy went out with Varly, so there must be no hard feelings.
A lot of that mud slinging that was done last summer was by his dad and Russian agent, not by him. Varly himself never said bad things about the team. The entire situation could have been handled better, but things worked out for the best for both sides. Also, Varly never really shared exactly what he wanted, all we heard was McPhee saying Varly demanded a bunch of stuff, and Slava Malamud said Varly never demanded that. I wouldn't assume that McPhee tells the truth all the time, I am sure he slants things to make the Caps look good.
Look at what McPhee did about Mattias Sjogren going back to Sweden. He was PISSED and trashed Mattias and his agent. Suddenly according to McPhee, Mattias couldn't skate well enough to make the team and his upside was 4th line center. Previously McPhee and scouts had talked about Mattias as 3rd line material, they wouldn't care about him going back to Sweden if he wasn't any good. Mattias wants to come back again next season and try to make the Caps, we'll see if McPhee puts his pride aside and allows him the chance (he has a two year contract with the Caps).
@O: thanks for your reply to my question on another thread. From what you say it's a different atmosphere at Kettler than what I observed in October. Communication with immediate feedback from the coaches to players is a very positive sign. I also like what you said about combining the PP and PK work into a single drill. It's going to take time to see the long term results, and fortunately there's still lots of hockey to be played. But hopefully the seeds have been planted for a rejuvenated Caps team, especially Ovie. We'll see what happens.
I also agree with AB about Varly. I have no hard feelings toward him and wish him good health and success with Colorado. I'm happy he had dinner with Ovie, Semin, Orlov, and Kocharov. They have no problem with him, so as far as I'm concerned everyone has moved on with no bitterness. That attitude is in everyone's best interests.
I'm back in town (DC) and everytime I come back I wonder why I keep leaving. haha anyways here are some of the Ovie pics I took today.

I don't like the way Varly stopped communicating with the Caps and let his Russian agent get out of hand. The agent represents and reflects his players. I have strong opinions on how good buisness is done. He failed on several levels. Varly was silent when he should have taken control of his image and agent. As I said at the time, he has a lot of growing up to do.
