Steigerwald(talk show): Ovechkin used steroids because his Mom is a Russian athlete
Just heard the most ridiculous exchange between John Steigerwald on his talk show and Ryan Lambert who was invited as a guest.
Steigerwald said that he heard rumors about Ovechkin's steroid use. Ryan asked him where he heard it, and Steigerwald said something like at HF Boards. To which Ryan said, "yes, I can go there and say, Crosby is a vampire. Prove me that I am wrong." Steigerwald then said he heard that Damian Cox was talking about it. If it's true, personally I never heard it, but I wouldn't be surprised knowing the history between Damian Cox and the Washignton Capitals organization.
Anyhow, Steigerwald goes further and reminds Ryan that Ovechkin is a son of a Russian athlete. Ryan replies, "yes, he is very much Russian, you got him on that". Steigerwald continues to say that Ovechkin's Mom is a Russian athlete from the 70s, when Russians and East Germans used steroids big time, their women athletes wore mustashes. And since Ovechkin was raised by such athlete, he used steroids too.
That's the end of the story. You can follow the comments on twitter. Have fun!

Listen for as long as I could to the audio on Puck Daddy. I hear "whispers" too --my "whispers" say that the rumormonger Steigerwald is an eejit. The best part of the interview was Lambert telling Steigerwald to disprove the rumor that Sidney Crosby is, in fact, a vampire.
Do you guys remember when I talked about assholes that still talking about cold war stereotypes about Soviet female athletes being on steroids? Well, Steigerwald is a good example. What an asshole!!!
Ovi needs to kick his ass! One thing is being insulted, but when they mess with you mother is another! I'm so f#$%^&ing angry right now that I just want to beat the crap out him!
@Devi,
I do remember that, can't believe how right you were...
@tj: I don't know why, but for a moment before Steigerwald started to insult Ovi's mom that came to my mind. I was hoping he didn't say such a thing, but he did and I can't believe that I actually heard that! It just blow my mind.
I really would like to know the reaction of the Russian media because this asshole not only insulted Ovi's mom and dad, but also every past and present Russian athletes. He said they were "freaks!"
Also, I didn't like Lambert's response. I think he should have done better at the beginning, but I guess with the last "fact" Steigerwald put the rope on his neck in the end. He just end up sounding like an asshole even more than before.
I hope Ovie (and Leonsis) sue him for libel. This is something unacceptable, publicly calling the oraganization and the player out for something you don't have any proof. I hope he gets burned really bad for the article he wrote. I'd really like to hear what GMGM and Leonsis have to say about this, i for one would be itching to get this so-called 'journalist' in a courtroom to face the music. Sure, athletes are public figures but it doesn't mean you can just go around screaming that 'they're on 'roids, all of 'em!', you have to actually, you know, have someway to prove that the accusations you're handing out are true.
That said, i think the man is a racist.
@Anonymous:
I agree that idiot deserves his ass to be sue. I thought he was racist too or at least he still doesn't like Russians.
--------------------------------
If people from those days would have seen today's female athletes, the first thing they would have though is that all of them were on roids. That's because sports are more difficult and training is even harder now not only in Russia but in other countries so there is more competition. The same thing was back then. Americans were still arguing over the equal rights while the Soviets were ahead with more skilled female athletes. People in America were surprise to see such strong and athletic women during 70's and 80's and they couldn't just accept the fact that they trained harder or at least that's what the media made them believe.
This guy said that Ovi use steroids because he grew up in such a "culture," but if that were true, then we could also accuse a lot of american athletes of using roids just because they have train under ex-soviet athletes and coaches that came to the U.S.
He also said that if you go to a NFL locked room you will see a lot of guys with not normal bodies and you have to be really naive to not think that almost every athlete in the NHL or another league have use roids at least once. First, Russians are not the majority of athletes, trainers, and coaches in American leagues and sports so he is practically saying that Americans also have that "culture" and athletes have also grown up under that same "culture." And that not only goes for the men because if I can recall there was this American girl who won 3 or 5 (I don't remember) medals in the Olympics and later got them strip for admitting she used steroids.
So, if all American female and male athletes are on roids now that means they were on roids before so that means that America formed a steroids "culture" between the 70's and 80's just like he claims the Russian did hahaha! XD
First, he said that Ovi did roids because everyone does and then he said because he was Russian and because his mother was a Soviet athlete. He clearly lacks of facts for accusing all athletes including Americans and he is clearly a racist son of bitch for what he said about Russians.
As long the U.S. is one of the top 3 in the Olympics you barely going hear anyone saying that Americans female athletes are ugly, muscular, and on steroids, well at least in the American media. Also, only the cute faces, the blonds and the skinny ones will make it to magazine front pages while the natural or unnatural "big" and muscular girls stay in the shadows without being recognized. Only "big" girls from other countries make it to the media since they are good material for steroids accusations. The same thing is in Russia now. You only get to see girls like maria Sharapova on news paper, magazines and NIKE commercials.
Things have change and a lot of stereotypes have been proven wrong, but there are guys like Steigerwald that still have the same mentality from 20 years ago. He thinks his better than Ryan Lambert because he is older and "wiser," but the guy has not actualize so if is going to still living in the past then he should just get the hell out of the air and the internet.
