Alex Ovechkin won't attend All-Star game

 Katie Carrera

McPhee says Ovechkin isn't comfortable participating in ASG as suspended player. Doesn't want to be a distraction. Ovechkin will not attend.

Earlier today team's owner Ted Leonsis posted a strong statement on his blog:
I do not agree in any way with the suspension of Alex Ovechkin for 3 games. I support Alex Ovechkin. He is our bedrock player – our Captain; and he and his family know that we are always here to support him.

The decision has been made; and George McPhee will address the media today with our thoughts and concerns about the suspension.

 Katie Carrera
Ovechkin on pulling out of ASG: "My heart is not there. I got suspended, so why I have to go there?"

The majority of Capitals fans support this decision (see the poll on the top right, as well as similar poll on Capitals Insider)

Shanahan should be ashamed of not suspending Michalek. Free Ovechkin! Boycott the All-Star game!

One game, OK; a fine, OK; but come on, why no more discipline for Michalek elbowing Hendricks, 2 minutes, crazy. Enjoy your vacation, Ovie, have a great time.

Well, that's a big relief.

and why was it ok for Shanabanana, whatever his name is, to still refer to Ovi as a repeat offender, even if it's been 18+ months since his last offense. Don't make rules if you're not going to go by them jack-a$$.

Hope Ovi has a nice relaxing time off and comes back with energy and vengeance.
