Caps 2, SJ 5 1/7/12

Wideman, Halpern, Alzner, Vokoun and Ovi

This is what Ovi was talking about after the game:

Seconds after Washington Capital Joel Ward scores the equalizer, the Sharks go on the attack as Dan Boyle makes a pass near the blue line to Joe Thornton; Thornton makes a no-look behind-the-back pass to an open Patrick Marleau who taps the puck past Caps goalie Tomas Vokoun for his 15th goal of the season.

Ovi finished with -3 and without a point:

-3, 1 2min penalty, total ice time 21:00, 24 shifts, average 00:52, PP 00:26, even 20:34, 3 shots on goal, 1 attempt blocked, 3 missed, 2 hits, 1 giveaway, 2 blocked shots

Ovi gets 2 minutes for roughing:

Nothing wrong with a Winchester hit? Are you kidding? The guy accelerated from his own blue line to hit Semin. That's a definition of charging.

More from Stephen Whyno:
“It's a fine line. It's like one of those things where you've got to stand up for your teammates. I don't know if he knew it was a penalty either, though,” Hunter said. “It wasn't fair to him; the guy called it from the red line and he didn't see it.”

Asked if he thought it was a dirty hit, Ovechkin said: “No, it was I think good hit, but I think he makes a couple more extra steps. It's kind of situation when you have step up for the other guys.”
