NHL suspension rules

Here's what Anonymous reader left after I suggested that Ovi has to report on Feb. 4 vs. Montreal and Maria has to report on Feb. 6 in Thailand:

TJ,
He has no two weeks. He can only vacation for the ASG. Even suspended players have to report to team practices and meetings or be AWOL. He has to be at Kettler with the rest of the team Jan 30.

Common sense tells me she is right, but I still tried to find on internet what the rules are and only got this from Canucks forum. Enjoy.

Q.:I know in the NFL a suspended player can't have contact with the team or even attend games as a spectator. How does it work in the NHL?
  • In the NHL you're not allowed to watch it on TV at home. You have to sit in your room and think about what you've done.
  • NHL has no rules, but they have many different standards though.
  • Its pretty clear the nhl doesnt know what their rules are. How the f woud we?
  • NHL = No Hitting League
  • Expert help? If you find any let the NHL office know that it exists.

But seriously, if in NFL a suspended player cannot contact his team, could it be the same or at least somewhat close to what NHL has? What happened to Dale Hunter when he was suspended for 21 games?

AGREE! NHL has NO CLUE on ANYTHING! Boston # 63 and Sens #71 both hit players low and Shanny saw it differently. Go fig! One man's view is always bias to the moment and perhaps the teams/players. Think about that. NHL is slowly running its fans away. They have expanded too damn far and there isn't enough talent to go around. FACT!

I remember when McPhee got suspended for punching the old head coach of the Blackhawks. He was not allowed on the premises of the Verizon Center or Piney Orchard (the old training facility in Maryland)

Well I wouldnt let a player who punched the coach b present either but this is a league suspension not a team one, a suspension that the team disagrees with, I don't think Ovie will have any problems attending whatever he wants

Ovi was in the press box his previous suspensions and worked out with trainers at Kettler.

I think the franchises make up their own rule when it comes to how they handle suspended players. When Chris Stewart was suspended from the StL Blues he practiced with the team, and I believe he attended the games.
