Ovechkin gets 3 games

Can he skip All-Star event for due to his political and ideological differences and fly to Australia now?

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Ovechkin will forfeit $154,677.75. The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

Ovechkin will be eligible to play vs Habs on Feb. 4, 2012. Maria will start in new tournament in Thailand on Feb. 6, 2012.

Brendan Shanahan: Alex Ovechkin suspended 3 games

 Katie Carrera

Asked if Ovechkin will still attend the NHL's All Star game, a  spokesman declined to comment.

 Darren Dreger

If OV skips the All Star don't expect the NHL to discipline. League obviously wants him in Ott, but won't make a big deal if he's a no-show.

 Bob McKenzie

Ovechkin, even tho suspended, is eligible for ASG. Should all get sorted out Tues. Nothing final yet. But, IMO, I'd be surprised if he goes.

No surprise here.
Like I said before he is the mean Russian guy of the NHL according to the fucking media and I'm starting to think that the NHL actually thinks the same way.

Zbynek Michalek's hit was straight to the head and he got away with it.

And they want to get rid of concussions hahaha!!! This a big pile of BS!!!

I hope Ovi doesn't go to the fucking ASG!

The real travesty is the injustice of it all. Michalek got NOTHING for his more dangerous hit on Hendricks. Ovie technically is not a repeat offender, but as I understand the rules, repeat offender status only applies to amount and nature of fines, not how many games suspended. Still, it looks like the NHL is making an "example" of Ovie while letting Michalek completely off the hook. Shameful, and totally BS.

As for Ovie skipping the ASG, if he decides to express his displeasure by not showing up and going on "vacation", he better be prepared for the NHL to slap an additional 1 game suspension on to the 3 he already has. The league doesn't take kindly to players selected for the ASG to skip the festivities and events without a health related reason. Nick Lidstrom and Pavel Datsyk were punished a few years ago because they skipped the ASG to spend time with their families. So unless Ovie comes up with a valid health excuse for snubbing the ASG, he could get a longer suspension. While he might be justified sending his own message to the NHL, I don't think he would intentionally harm the Caps by missing any more games than already assessed. The Caps are in a dogfight for the SE lead and every point is crucial. As the Caps Captain, I think Ovie would put the team first.

My biggest concern now is how will Ovie respond when he returns to game action. He seemed to never recover fully from his suspension for a hit on Campbell in March 2010in a nationally televised NBC game just like the Pens game. Coincidence? He just recently seemed to regain his form, and now with another multi game suspension, his momentum is interrupted. More importantly, what will be the effect on his psyche? Will he become even more tentative making his trademark big hits? Or will he make his own statement by playing even more aggressively to dare the NHL to stop him? It will be interesting to see what happens.

for f#@% sakes! i can't believe this at all! Ha! The only thing he did wrong was leave his feet, the head wasnt even the initial point of contact! Michalek's was 10x more dangerous! This shanahan idiot is gonna be making a mistake because theyve already lost ovie as a head face of the nhl in terms of his trademark aggressive play to a lot less careful. This is only going to worsen everything!

Well, he did leave his feet and he does it sometimes when he gets really angry and involved. He needs to adjust because he is now under microscope. However I lost my faith in Shanahan because Michalek's hit on Hendricks was far more dangerous.

Shanahan has gone haywire rite now! The michalek guy didn't even get a fine. ThAt is the biggest piss off!

Sad truth is Ovi really doesn't deserve to be at the ASG if you're basing it on points. There are plenty of players right now with better records.

He wasn't voted in by the fans either.

Now, if you think he deserves to be there because of star power, that's another story.
